    Hot tub honey?

I have no idea about hot tubs, however some people in the us leave salt licks out for their bees. Possibly they get some sort of salt from the water? Clint

    sliding bottom boards

I agree with that. The only reason I replace floors is that the oxalic acid is supposed to attack metal. So I remove my metal omf for a wood one. I then leave it on until early march when I check hive weights to see if extra feeding is needed. Clint

    Cold Weather and Inspections

Wow you're brave! Checking on bees in changeable weather while on our. Lol - my bees can get pretty nasty with that combo. Clint

    Sugar type

Firstly no need to get personal or nasty. It was something I came across recently and was wondering if anybody had read any more into it. If it is gossip, then apologies for bringing it up. These insecticides have been banned in france and Germany due to their action in killing off bees. Here...

your thoughts please about frames with honey

Aside from the disease, the other thing to watch for is that you could potentially start robbing of weak colonies by strong colonies. Bees are opportunists and teaching them that honey can be found unguarded in onr hive may encourage strong colonies to take on weak ones for an easy honey...

    Cold Weather and Inspections

I usually am happy to go through a hive quickly if it's warm Enough to wear a t shirt comfortably. I am in wilts and went through my girls around 12 today. Thought it was warm enough not to chill brood, providing I go through the hives without wasting time. Clint

    Sugar type

I have heard that the seed used to produce sugar beet I'd coated with a neonicitaniod systemic insecticide (Imidicloprid or something similar), as it's systemic, the plant absorbs the insecticide and it becomes part of the plant. If this is the case then there is a chance that by feeding your...

    sliding bottom boards

I have open mesh floors on all year. The only time I replace these with solid floors is to oxalic acid treatment just before Christmas. I put my open mesh floors back on around march. Bees generally won't die of cold, but most certainly will die of damp. Cold weather wil delay brood rearing...

    dying bees

Lol that is one question I always ask before collecting a swarm I'd called! It's saved me a few trips only to see a bunch of bumblers! Honey carries a lot of bee diseases, not sure if it would affect bumblebees but definitely not worth the risk. A one to one solution of water and white cane...

    dying bees

Pretty certain susbees has it right. A drop of sugar solution when lethargic should go a way to helping them me thinks. Clint

    dying bees

Do the large bees look as though they are wearing a rugby jersey? Ie strong bands of colour? Also Do they have hairy bodies? If any of the above they're probably bumble bees, or hover flies. These two can sometimes look almost an identical to a honey bee. Regards clint

    No eggs, queen not found

There seems to be a trend like this at the moment. I have spoken to other beekeepers with similar problems. You have two options available. The first is to leave the queen cells with the bees and let them do things naturally. I would knock down the sealed qc as you have no idea if it's vital or...

Epipens, their use and possible dangers

My wife has had an anaphylactic reaction when one bee got through a tiny tear and stung her on the neck. Had been stung plenty times before no probs. this one caused itching, restricted breathing and welts all over. I have epipen in car always now. As I occasionally teach and show people how a...

Would you Adam and Eve it !

Where about in the uk are you? You could try something the yanks call a 'trap out'. That way you,ll remove most of the bees and leave only the queen and old wax combs Clint
