What harm can it actually do?

and I thought I had it sussed........:) but it's obviously not that way at all. So where I am now = It doesn't appear to do any harm, if, the bee's decide to eat it. Some will. and some won't.

What harm can it actually do?

This is exactly the reason why I started this thread. Thanks ratcatcher, and everyone else that commented. My question has now been answered. Presumably the Asda icing doesn't taste as nasty as the Tesco's fondant, and maybe it depends on how it was given. Anyway, while I was trying to...

    Mixing fondent with Neopoll

Answering my own question... I can see that my question must have appeared stupid to those with knowledge and experience. So for any other newbee's reading this thread, the answer is: The frame feeder puts the feed inside the brood box, so the bees don't have to go looking for it...

What harm can it actually do?

WTMI - way too much information but hey, why not.... Just in case anyone is interested, and you probably aren't but I'm posting it anyway to answer my own original post. The reason why Bee's won't take the Asda's (ready to roll) white icing is because it contains Glycerol, which makes other...

    mixing thymol in the kitchen....

Thanks, glad you told me that. My own dish it is then, and mixed outside the house.

    mixing thymol in the kitchen....

I want to mix a thymol patty (caster sugar, fat, and thymol crystals). Thing is, once I've used it in one of the wife's dishes is the dish mine forever, never to contain human food again? Or will it be ok, once washed as usual.....

Bees not taking syrup but taking fondant

I'm like you. Got my first bees yesterday evening and put a litre of 1:1 syrup on top of the crown board, dribbling a bit down through the Queen excluder to let 'em know it was there - well ok, more than just a bit. Anyway, tonight in between rain showers, I've just lifted the roof to...

    Comb in roof space

my two pence worth I'm no expert but it seems to me that if the Queen is still in the brood box, and the Q Excluder is ok, then all you have to do is cut the comb off, and brush the bees back into the super, then replace the crown board with another one you just happened to have just for this...

easipet hive You're lucky that your association does that, ours doesn't.

    cheap hive on Amazon

easipet hive Hi Ivor, I bought one too, and got the varroa mesh myself. You don't need nails if you use a proper glue - I use the Evostick waterproof. Its expensive, but gives a good bond in about 15 mins if you clamp the joint. And if you leave it 24 hours, it's like you've turned two...

    Mixing fondent with Neopoll

pollen patty substitute I hope this isn't a stupid question, but, how does the frame feeder help? Can you put it on top of the syrup?

easipet hive So is there no one out there who has had a negative experience with an Easipet hive?

    cheap hive on Amazon

easipet hive It's nice to hear that a bunch of people didn't have any problems. They paid their money and trusted that they would get a good product, seems like they did. My point however, was that, that doesn't define the trader. What defines the trader, is how they behave when things...

    cheap hive on Amazon

easipet hive Hmm, I'm glad to hear your experience was positive Greg. The OP, although it was some time ago, was referring to an amazon ad for an Easipet hive. That's who I got my flat pack from, although I got it through ebay, and it looks like I bought exactly the same product. Look, when...

    cheap hive on Amazon

easipet hive I know this thread started a long time ago, but... Funny you should say that, I bought one, and have it almost completely assembled. I'll let you know how I got on once it's finished and I've had a mentor look at it.

All this talk of Asian Hornets, are we over reacting?

hornet space2 Ah yes, I've just read the planet passion page where it says that. I can't shake the idea that the size is important. What would happen if the foragers encountered a barrier more than the magic 30cm away with 5.5mm or 6mm holes? Maybe 3-4 feet away. You know the sort I...

All this talk of Asian Hornets, are we over reacting?

hornet space I notice that the Fera instructions say, cut a 7mm hole to allow the hornet in. So, does that mean if I restrict the height of my hive entrance to 6.5mm or 6mm they can't enter? And - if I provide an alternative entrance leading to a trap, will that sort the buggers out?

What harm can it actually do?

Thanks for replying. Yes I agree, it could definitely harm your wallet if you just fed 'em White Icing. I'm interested to hear that someone has tried it already. If the Bee's ignored it that would suggest a smell from one of the additives put them off. Looks like my block of icing's going to...
