Thanks for the replies :) So it's a definite no no. Obviously I didn't get that from a bee book ..otherwise I'd not've asked. Putting them one at a time in the brood box temporarily seems a good plan may try that.
The advice regarding feeding and supers seems to always be to not to feed the bees when there's a super in place so they don't store syrup. However I'm going to be giving my bees supers of undrawn foundation so I expect it'll be a while before they can store anything in them.
