Three sealed queen cells, lots of brood - what next

Now I disagree. When the old queens swarms, she leave for a new location. A new queen continues the old location. So you should have said Old queen - new location, New queen - old location.

Three sealed queen cells, lots of brood - what next

If there are two qc's then you need to leave one in each of the splits. Otherwise, you could be killing one half of the colony. Another way to split is to be sure that both have eggs. That way, if something happens the bees can possibly make some more queens.

Nucs to full size brood box

I am new to your forum, but I have been keeping bees for about 15 years. I would say that in the Spring, to stimulate brood building, use 1:1 sugar syrup. The bees think that a honey flow is beginning and they need lots of bodies to harvest all the nectar and pollen they can. In the late Fall...

Is there anyway of requeening with the old queen still there!

    BBKA Study notes

I am glad that the US doesn't hold the record of people not understanding exams and the reason for them. I am sorry that those people are among the beekeepers. Just because you work with Honeybees that fly and sting, doesn't mean that you don't need to know about other flying, stinging insects...

    Brrod/Super swap for spring

JohnnyD, Just before your Spring honey flow is the time to switch your super and brood box. Put your queen excluder on top of the brood box after you switch. Put an empty super on top of that. Leave the bees alone until you see eggs or new larvae in the brood box. Now switch again and put the...

Drone Laying Queen - what to do

Roachman, I have found that when the worker bees find the queen gone for what ever reason and there are no eggs or 1-3 day old larvae, then one or more workers will start eating royal jelly to get their overies developed, they will start laying unfertilized eggs. I have reason to believe there...

    Apiary Near Pylons?

MathJ, I am new to the UK forum, but I will answer your question. It usually takes 21 days +- for the bees to forget their old home place. Sort of like if you move to another home, for a while you will try to return to you old house automatically. After the 3 weeks or so, you can then move your...
