Any ideas what is happening here?

Thanks - they are all now back in the hive. Very possibly a virgin queen so fingers crossed and I’ll check next weekend

Any ideas what is happening here?

Half an hour ago 1000s bees were flying around the hive making a very loud noise. Now they are covering the outside. Were they about to swarm and changed their mind or is something else going on?

    Colony depleted

Sadly I think that you are right, I cant have been paying sufficient attention. I have started another nuc with the queen who survived and I will be feeding them like mad to make sure that this doesn't happen again.

    Colony depleted

I created a nuc about 3 weeks ago with 2 frames of brood and bees and a new queen. All seemed to be going well until this evening when I have found almost all of the bees dead on the floor of the nuc and only a handful and the queen still alive. What can I do to save this queen? I have one...

    No room in brood box

Thanks - I'll try putting some insulation above the super to see if that encourages them to use it

    No room in brood box

Finman - there was about 5 frames of brood a couple of weeks ago but that is dwindling because there is no space. I have an OMF so ventilation is OK and yes there are white larvae. I put the super on because I am surrounded on 3 sides with OSR which is in full flower. I'll have a look later...

    No room in brood box

I'm using a 14x12 brood box and the bees are filling it with nectar and pollen and leaving almost no room for any brood. I have put a super on with drawn comb to give them more room but they are ignoring it. I'm worried that there is so little room for brood that the colony will soon be...

Hospital treatment as result of sting-what to expect next

This happened to me two years ago and I gave up my bees as I didnt want to repeat the experience but last year I did a RAST test and started desensitisation treatment. At the end of March this year I bought a nuc from another forum member and things have been going really well. I strongly agree...

I have a colleague who suffers from hayfever and is keen to try solving this by taking local honey - does any forum member live/have hives in this area and honey available to purchase? thanks:)

    Sting De-Sensitisation

Treatment starts in two weeks Andy - last May I had an almost identical experience to the one that you have described, I was stung in the jugular and reacted the same way. As I generally do my bee keeping alone the bees had to go because I couldnt risk another reaction like that without...

    Noted today.

How can you tell that they are taking in water? I can clearly see pollen going in but I dont think I'd know if they were collecting water.
