    Swarm captured -cant find queen

I find if you stop worrying about not seeing her and just let them get on with thing and just feed them you will go in one day and there will be eggs and uncapped brood. I've had very few in 14 years where there has been no queen. Small virgin can be hard to spot.

    Hive Stand Plans?

Hi yes I dip in and out of the forum, it's been very busy few years, between work and family life but still keeping bees. Had some health problems just over two years ago and that added to the lockdown thought about giving bee keeping up but really getting back into the swing of it all and...

    swarm collecting

Nine swarm calls one day last week, it was mid week can't remember what day as book is not at hand. Village Girl, Corriena managed to have them all collected. So I'd like to say well done the beekeepers in the Norwich area.

    Nitriles for leather

Nitriles and talcum powder is certainly the way to go. Whenever I have had to go gloveless through no choice of my own, I always get stung so much I cannot carry on with inspection.

    RIP Dishmop

I have just found out the sad news that Dishmop passed away last month. Forgive me if I am wrong but I could not find any mention of this and thought people would like to know as he was a big contributer to the forum. RIP Chris

    Another lady with bees

I had a call from a company stating that they had a swarm of honey bees that had set up home in a bird box. I went through all the educational stuff and explained that they were a bumble bee and could not possibly be Honey bees. Explained that the colony would die out and then they could move...

Does anyone else feel like they are having a bad year so far

Yep poor spring for me badly mated queen and need to reduce stock as too many eggs in one basket. Will give hives one more week to sort themselves out or will have to cull and replace.

To shade or not to shade?!

Also think full sun. My hives that also get the early morning sun are up and at it an hour to an hour half before the others that are in shade.

    TonyBloke

That’s really shocking news. Tony was a great guy and seemed to have time to help anyone especially with bees. He helped out my friend Village Girl on a couple of occasions by passing on swarms to her. I met Tony on a number of occasions; he had a great sense of humor, Top Bloke. Myself and...

    Transporting equipment to out apiary

The wife has the family car that she calls hers. For the bees I use what is the old family car. VW Sharan with seats out in the back. Unfortunately it's on it's last legs and desperate for a clutch. It has been great having all that room for moving hives collecting swarms will miss it big time...

    Minty

My second crop of honey, from the two hives I have at home in the garden has a very pleasant minty after taste. So any ideas what might give them this taste. No fields of mint around her.
