    Easi-steam National

Why buy one, simple to make from hive parts and a wall paper steamer. I use old polly roof's. Cut an outlet in one side and line it with silver foil, use this inverted. fit an old super in the upside down roof, hessian over that then place your super or broods complete with frame on top of that...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

All doing well?? Been around to all 4 apiaries this afternoon, all colonies are looking good, a few taking fondant and getting light but hopfully undercontrol. Was concerned about a colony that went into winter weaker than I would have liked but seems to now be through the worst. Lots of...

    14 X 12 is it becoming more popular ?

I 've heard mixed reviews re 14x12. The commercial route looked like a good alternative. As I said I'll experimenting this season only on couple of colonies, the rest stay on double brood national.

    14 X 12 is it becoming more popular ?

This years plan is to run a couple of colonies on commercial brood to access any advantages over the National double brood. For me this seems the a better option than going to Langstroth as I can carry on using National floors/roofs and supers. The hope is the extra room will allow use of a...

    What size?

Use stainless steel fixing for cedar either screws or nails. I personally use nails and no glue. If screws you must pre drill and counter sink to stop spliting. A good tip for nailing is to flatten the nail point with a hammer slightly, this also stops any wood spliting. Measure corner to...

    Warming cabinet

More info. Did try to edit the post with more info but timed out:adminpower:. Any way. The cabinet is made from 50 Celotex which I often have offcuts left over from building jobs. It has a single 20 watt halogen low voltage light and a simple temp. sensor. It warms up to 32degs. and to my mind...

    Best of both worlds.

I'm currently running several colonies on double brood nationals. Although this works fine I'm keen to try something different on one or two colonies. I'm thinking alone the line of running a single Commercial brood on national floor and supers. I'm not keen on going over to 14 by 12 as I make...
