To nuc or not to nuc

I've no idea what you are talking about and am disappointed that you treat your newcomers with suspicion when all they are trying to do is learn. C'est la vie. Au revoir, but thank you for those who took the time to answer my questions. There'll be no more questions from me at this forum -...

To nuc or not to nuc

Easy Beesy - I don't know any beekeepers on this forum as to whether they are conventional or not - I've just joined!

To nuc or not to nuc

Easy Beesy. Thanks for your reply. At the BBKA convention last year I was impressed by a Scottish beekeeper (Ian someone, can't remember his surname). He talked a lot about listening to the bees as they know best. I have engaged in discussion on the forum about natural beekeeping and I am...

Suspicions about what?! LOL What ARE you talking about?

    types of smoker fuels used

Hi I use wood shavings, egg boxes, straw, newspaper and bits of wood lying around the woods. I had read somewhere about mixing it with herbs and had also read that we shouldn't smoke our bees too much as it confuses them gets mixed with the all important pheramones of the hive, which take a...

To nuc or not to nuc

Busy bees - how long in time did you wait before moving them from the nuc?

To nuc or not to nuc

One very simple reason. You stated it in post #1. You don't want to increase! I think we need some joined up thinking on this one. Thanks Oliver. Nothing wrong with 'unjoined up thinking'. I stated there were many questions under one thread and apologised for that. The question was not...

To nuc or not to nuc

Hi, thanks for that. The problem is I work full time and am not always around the hives to see what's going on in preparation for the swarm. I guess I should have on an empty super all the time. But if swarming is a natural phenomena anyway then why suppress it - why shouldn't we let the bees...

To nuc or not to nuc

He peeps Can you please advise me as I'm trying to work out a budget for next year. I have two hives and don't want to increase. Should I invest in a nuc next year when swarming starts and is it correct that I put the swarm into the nuc? Also, what do I do with them after that?! Do I then join...

making a nuc for 50 pence.

My my, aren't we all cynical! Perhaps he recycles..perhaps he starts off with something that would do the job nicely and just adds to it from things he already has! Where there's a will there's a way...anyone want to eat their bee suit if they're wrong??

    What to do with frames

Hi everyone. I've wrapped up everything for winter and am storing the frames from the super. I'm sure I could get another year out of this but i was wondering, does anyone ever cut out the foundation from frames that can't be used again and reuse the frame itself to put new foundation into...

    Desperate plea

Update on the 'doomed hive'. I was encouraged today (but I am a novice). There were 3 -4 combs containing larvae but there were also a lot of drone cells. I am not sure what is happening to be honest. I was told to knock it don and put the frames in front of my existing strong colony but I...

    Desperate plea

Hi Itma Treated with Apiguard. Lot of drone cells being produced. That's what worries me. So if all brood what am I supposed to do?

    Natural beekeeping

Agreed Veg and MBC and I am very thankful that the bees share their food with me. We ALL want to look after the bees to the best of our ability and we take that responsibility seriously I am sure.

    Bravo

    Natural beekeeping

Not wasteful at all. What I have said is that the insects are more important to me personally than the honey. The reward to me is not the honey but a healthy colony. I did not say I didn't use the extra honey (and enjoy it!) simply that, if given a choice between honey and bees I would choose...

    Natural beekeeping

Excellent post Brosville. Personally, I don't keep bees for the honey but to study and observe the insects. The honey is a by product of my interest and I too, would leave them all the honey if that's what their needs dictate.

on a lighter note. The bees have been busy

how do I do that? why?

    Desperate plea

Very much appreciated. Will do all those things.

On a happier note... Absolutely brilliant pictures! Superb and well done. Any chance at all I could have a couple of these sent as jpgs/gifs? Would REALLY appreciate that. Sooo good.
