    Thorne budget hives

I have bought many of these hives and always found them to be good. If there has been any damage in transit or something not right, they have always replaced quickly, and they cannot be faulted on that. Again, you get what you pay for, but I have always been happy with them. Hope this helps you...

    Soft set OSR query

Can any one help please. I have followed the advice to make OSR soft set honey. The problem is that now it is in a jar, lines are appearing on the side as it shows in the picture. Has this happened to anyone else or does anyone know why this is happening. Many thanks.

    Does heat stop queen laying

Would high temperatures stop a queen from laying. We have just checked a hive with this years queen in, who has been laying, but now there are no eggs, or larvae in any stage or any queen cells. The queen was seen. Through no choice, we had to site this hive in full sun, not expecting the...

2 Queens in 1 hive - both DLQ

Some more advice please. I have a hive which, going into winter, I found 2 queens, one being the original, the other a new queen and as it was late in the season, I decided to leave them to it. Inspecting this week, I have found that unfortunately they are both drone layers. As the hive still...

    Should I be patient

Hi Pete, yes the patience has run out and I have united the hive, got rid of the dud queen as advised and fingers crossed all goes well. Another hive I have, when closing up for the winter, I found 2 queens side by side so decided to leave them to it. On inspection this spring, they are both...

    Should I be patient

Thank you Enrico for your advice. When the 2 hives have united, how long would you leave it before removing the top box and what is the best way to do this please.

    Should I be patient

Thank you all for the advice, I will sit on my hands for a week. Just one more query, if I do have to unite with another hive, the one it will have to be united to is 100 metres from this hive, will I get away with this and how do I do it. Once again, thank you.

    Should I be patient

Did an inspection yesterday on my 14x12 hive. Plenty of bees, no eggs, no brood, there are stores and pollen and found an unmarked queen (there had been a marked queen last Autumn). I don't know whether this means she is no good or if I should be patient, I am just concerned that all the...

    Hard fondant

I have made some fondant following Rosti's recipe but it has gone rock hard straight away, can anyone tell me what I have done wrong and can it be put right? Also one other query, if the fondant on top of the crown board has gone hard, can the bees still use it. Many thanks.

Urgent Advice Please - 14x12 full of stores

Thank you very much for your replies, it has put my mind at rest, I always thought that bees had to have 2-3 frames of brood going into winter, another lesson learned.

Urgent Advice Please - 14x12 full of stores

I have completed varroa treatment on Wednesday and have been feeding the hives. I have gone in today to do inspection and have found that my 14x12 frames are full of stores, there is little or no brood and have seen the queen looking for somewhere to lay. My question is should I put a drawn...
