Just a quick reminder to those who want to grow large onions. Sow them now, I use The Kelsae variety. With a bit of luck you should end up with some like these.

    The best laid plans........

Here on Walnut Allotments we run a beekeeping cooperative and we have been keeping 3 hives plus nucs for over 2 years without any problems. We had the option of an out apiary 3/4 of a mile from where we are located and a remote apiary (a smallholding) 14 miles away should we need to move the...

    When will it end?

Gave up counting after 24 swarm cells removed today. They might not look like there is Carniolan in them but it's still in the genes. It's got to be triple brood next yearbee-smillie:willy_nilly:

    random comb

Three days ago, we placed this plate with the honey and capping porridge from our extractor into hive 3. This is what the bees chose to do.:hurray:

    a proper bee-keeper

Another daft and pointless one from me- We all started out by keeping bees in a box, but at what point or after which bit of successful beekeeping did you think of yourself a bee-keeper. Me- I will be a bee-keeper when I get stung:D

    Bee inspector came today

Our regional bee inspector came today (Ian) and brought glorious sunshine with him. If you have not had a visit from your bee inspector I reccomend you do, he was really helpful and I got some great advice on a couple or three improvements that I could make. Hive 1 was cofirmed as Q-, our former...

switch bee escape, use or bin it?

I have been looking through some of our odd bits and bats and came across a switch (or slide) bee escape/clearer board, as seen on Cushman's sitehttp://www.*****************/bee/switchableboard.html Has anybody used one, are they worth using or should I bin it? I would be worried about closing...

Best improvement you have made to your hives

A serious question- What is the best improvement you have made to your hives this year? We made and fitted clear poly crown boards. I could spend hours showing visitors what goes on inside our hives.
