Too early for a shook swarm?

Wow, i feel really sorry for the poor bees under the supposed care of these people, asking a small colonies to draw out all those frames at this time of year is just not going to work, they should be in a Nuc box with that small amount of bees, i fear they are doomed, very sad, i watched the...

    Keld Brandstrup

Why the big secret Hivemaker ? i would have thought adopting a position of cooperation and sharing would be better if we want to have some sort of organised Queen breeding in the UK.

    pricing

we sell ours for £140 plus £10 delivery and installation within 10 miles, these are 6 frame nuc`s with our own grafted 2017 queens on National or Langstroth frames, we had a limited number of over wintered Nuc`s but decided to keep theses, so i think £200 is a bit on the expensive side.

    Free sugar

This is nothing new, we have been taking split bags of sugar from Tescos for the last 3/4 years, we had to prepare and sign a disclaimer stating that " we would not sue them if their sugar kills our bees" we had to check every bucket as they would put all shorts of crap in with the sugar, brown...

    Bee Farmers apprenticeship scheme

Yes it could be done, i did exactly that 30 plus years ago when i worked in a different industry, but that was a very different world then, i think those days are long gone, you could buy a house for 40k then, self employed could get loans by self assessment !! by your reckoning they would have...

    Bee Farmers apprenticeship scheme

Just for the records i am totally behind apprenticeships in the country, one of my concerns was for the future of these apprentices when they have qualified what do they do then, i see in a post that a mere 50k would set them up ! i would ask where does that come form, i am not sure a bank would...

    Bee Farmers apprenticeship scheme

I would suggest there are far more possibility's in farming for those leaving agricultural collage in this country than in bee farming as there are far more farms which have a wide range of positions available, no one would suggest someone leaving collage would go straight out and buy a farm...

    Bee Farmers apprenticeship scheme

I will start be applauding the BFA for setting up this apprenticeship scheme in the first place, but i feel it is flawed in two aspects, 1. this scheme will only really benefit existing medium to large scale bee farming businesses that want to employ a family member or two, something they might...

There has been a post about our method on the forum already, but yes as Kev says i will be willing to answer any questions regarding our method of controlling CBPV, one question has been asked already is "what happens to all the nurse bee" the answer is that some will be lost but also a lot do...

    Chronic Bee Paralysis Virus

I would really only use our method as a last resort as it dose cause the colony a lot of stress and upheaval, i don`t think it is worth putting them through all that for only a few infected workers, i would pick them of by hand for now and see how they cope with it, CPBV really peaks around late...

    Chronic Bee Paralysis Virus

you are attempting to separate every infected bee form the uninfected ones Doug, as the infected ones loose the ability to fly and will drop like stones to the ground, the others will fly back home, as the virus is passed mostly from bee to bee contact, the brood in the combs will be unaffected...

    Chronic Bee Paralysis Virus

Yes David was giving a talk on the subject so i sent him an early copy of my method, i must stress that to be successful with this method you should swing the frames up and tap off the bees in an upward motion to get them flying, to shake them onto the floor would be counter productive, we have...

    But there's a snag

You will have to keep renaming a bee every six weeks as your adoption lasts for 12 months, maybe you will get a few invites to the funerals :spy:
