    Replacement veil/material?

Try fly screen mesh from e- b~y. We bought some a few years ago and replaced the mesh on 2 suits. 1.2 meter x 1meter was around £5. Sorry can't remember the suppliers name but a search should find some. Alan

    My chicken coop

Suggest you cut a square pop-hole that will let the hens in and out; use a sliding metal hatch which will slide up and down on two simple side guides to open and close it. With a rope on 2 pulley wheels like on a clothes line) you can raise and lower it from the ground to let the hens out and...

Heating cabinet on a go slow!

Hi I made a heater cabinet earlier this year and put in an STC-1000 and one 60 watt tubular heater; and had exactly the same problem; very slow to heat and would only heat to about 35 degrees C. I added a second 60 watt tubular heater in series to the first, both at the bottom of the cabinet...

    bees attend beekeepers funeral

I think this is from the USA in the 1950's, we had never heard of it before and thought it might be of interest to some. Not sure if it was a natural occurrence or there was some "help" given to the bees. Believer or sceptic?? Alan...

    Clearer boards made cheap.

Hi We use homemade 2inch deep boards with 5 canadian cone escapes fitted on each. They cleared the supers on each hive after 3 hours; the majority of the bees were clustered on the underside of the clearer board. Made things much easier. Alan

    Pollen colour

We have had this same colour pollen coming in over the last 3 weeks in large amounts; like redwood the bees seemed to be ignoring the balsam in preference to it. We are well out in the country and dont think there can be any amount of dahlias anywhere near to our hives: so what else could it...

    Rapid or contact feeder

Thanks to all the replies on feeder type and like a lot of things in beekeeping different beeks have diferent ways of achieving the same goal. We plan to put a rapid feeder on one hive and a contact on another and see how quick they take it, for us the rapid is much easier to work with but we...
