Are they your own over wintered queens reared in North wales or have you imported them? Or maybe you have managed to rear some early queens in N. Wales but I doubt it given the awful weather.

I will be there too, I am also doing the mead making, I signed up for it last year but it was cancelled.

I use the Abelo ones, they are very effective but an odd size. Not really sure what hives they are designed to fit.

I think langstroth is a better system if you live in an area where you get very large brood nests. The big disadvantage on a larger scale is the costs of frames etc as I very rarely see seconds available.

I was very polite and just informed them of what happened, but the response was shocking and a complete stone wall lack of any help and it was implied that I was lying, I was expecting the postal service to cover it but was told they dont cover bees and they made the mistake so there is nothing...

I called royal mail and was told that the contents were not covered as the extra was not paid, The supplier said they cant insure them, I thought the same as you but it appears not.

Distance Selling regulations state its the supplier that is responsible for any issues and need to provide a refund or replacement. In this case royal mail would have provided this service for them if they had offered or included it the correct cover.

I own one of the abelo cages and they are good but I only use it for expensive breeder queens, for normal F1 queens the mailer cages are fine and if left 5 days for acceptance with no queen in the hive they work perfectly.

how long are you leaving the queen cage in the nuc before opening the flap? I would recommend 5 days if your having issues. Are you sure you don't have a virgin queen in the nuc?

The site only gives one option which I was told was a Guaranteed by 1.00 next day service. If the seller doesnt take out an insured service (which I had assumed I was paying for) then they need to cover the the loss themselves and not expect the buyer to just pay for a product that either...

As per my post I was not blaming them for the postal system but as a supplier I do expect them to resolve issues and not expect the customer to pay for a failed order, I was just highlighting the facts so people can make an informed opinion. people make there own decision but they need to base...

I have also used queens from BMH, great queens and great service, genuine good chap. I use his queens in my drone producing hives, it gives great genetics with good quality F0 queens.
