The hive has 2 supers on which are being drawn and filled( above the QX) The problem I have is that the hive is bursting at the seems and also the wax in...

I hived a small swarm in June, they have expanded well and are now in a national brood box with 6 frames brood, 2 frames of stores ( ish) and the remaining frames semi drawn/ filled. As they are an unknown quantity (not swarmed from my other hive) I wanted to treat them with Apiguard sopner...

    Preparing for winter question

When the bees are left for winter should the holes in the crown board for the porter bee escape be blocked up or left open? I read the article in the BBKA news and was not sure what to do as it said to take the porter bee escapes out - I can't remember what we did last winter at all!

I have a few super frames that were left for too long and after extraction they have some crystallised honey remaining in the cells. The bees have shown no interest in cleaning them out! Please can any of you more experienced folks advise me on how best to deal with them. Many thanks

    Apiguard question

Hi all. I am a new beekeeper and this is probably a silly question. I inspected the bees yesterday and put in the first tray of apiguard in an eke. I have 2 questions - 1) where does the QE fit into this set up. I left it brood box with apiguard on, eke to make space QE on top and then super...
