    Signing off

After five years I have sold up. All my bees and equipment was collected by the new owners this morning. At the start I was hungry for knowledge and attended all my classes with enthusiasm. After the first year, I knew everything. At the end of the second year, it seemed that my bees were...

    Selling up.

All sold and collected in filthy weather. Best wishes to the new owner for the new season and beyond. Thank you for your interest and so sorry for switching off my pm. I don't know how I did it and I'll try and correct it.:thanks::redface:

    Compulsory.

    Selling up.

Once a week for the first three months followed by once a month for three years. The Consultant Immunologist has refused to treat me privately so my choice, if I am lucky enough to be granted a place, is Cambridge or Leicester. This, of course, is with a view to staying alive rather than...

    Selling up.

Acute general reaction to a random sting while relaxing in my garden with a G&T. The beta-blocker that I take will likely prevent the adrenaline in an epi pen from working. My next sting may be my last... I'm sad and disappointed but must be realistic.

    Selling up.

14 x 12. All from Thornes in the last five years. There's a mixture of 'bees on a budget' hives made up to deep brood boxes with the Thornes eke and 14 x 12 brood boxes that I bought.

    Selling up.

All for sale. 3 colonies - two are mild mannered and one is a bit of a stinker but I tolerate it because it's a good producer (100lb in 2012). 8 x deep national (3 are national with an eke) 13 x super 9 x roof 10 x omf 1 x pitched roof (not yet made up) 1 x Snelgrove board 8 x super kits (not...

    Ow!

Hi Mike, I take a cocktail of medicines for my various problems. The only recent change is an increase in Gliclazide. I'm not a pharmacologist so I can't draw any direct links. As I work in medical devices R&D, I am able to understand the significance of Karol's posting and intend to read...

    Ow!

Went to see the doctor, today. The 'local' allergy clinic is at Addenbrook's in Cambridge, which is an awful place, and the waiting list is over twelve months currently. Ho hum.

    Ow!

Thanks, Heather I have had an Epipen in my bucket since I started and I never go out without a telephone. It takes three weeks to get an appointment with a GP around here. Then a referral will likely take another couple of months. It certainly is one way to cut down waiting lists.

    Ow!

Thanks. I'm toying with the idea of asking for referral to an allergy clinic. Not ready to give up yet!

    Too Old to Keep Bees

Old beekeepers don't die, they just go up in smoke. ;)

    Gaiters or wellies or nothing?

Wellies. "You'd be in a hospital or infirmary" next?

    Ow!

Sorry, I didn't explain. I was in my back garden, I wasn't wearing my bee suit.:o:o

    Ow!

Took a sting on my ankle, last night. Within 15 minutes, I had weals all over my back and under my arms, my face puffed up so that I couldn't close my mouth and I felt my throat tightening up. Itchy all over. Took an anti-histamine and put Anthistan cream all over the rash. This morning, my...

    One of mine swarmed yesterday

6 closed queen cells. They only went as far as the hedge so we got them into a new hive. Onwards and upwards, this year it's all going to be different...

    Frame extensions

I asked this question last year, ignored the advice and bought two sets. Used one; the other is still in its plastic wrapping. They use Hoffman converters to attach the two side parts. The bees propolise these to the side walls so when you pull (eventually, in frustration, you pull really...
