    Open message to Admin.

I have in large enjoyed your forum and the many contributions from its members. I have learned a lot but I also have made contributions. However, my enjoyment is seriously lessened by the constant attacks/insults to my contributions from Oliver90owner - RAB. I have no problem with a...

    Welcome addiditional late garden forage.

I have about one square metre of rocket which is in flower at the moment. Even though my bees are working the ivy, they are busily working the rocket flower. Perhaps one to sow a wild patch of, to help blend with the ivy forage. Very easy to grow and you'll also have rocket all year for your...

    Forage.

Just went for a walk in the field next to me to see what the girls were foraging on, if anything. Lots of red clover but they're not touching that (probiscus too short on Amm?). Napweed still in flower but no insects touching it although my bees were on it a couple of weeks ago. I can't see...

    Picture diary.

While it's nice to take and keep pictures, they can serve another purpose. I went for a walk just now and the ivy is not yet in flower. However I've just looked at my pics and this one was taken last year on the 12th. October, so so still some way to go.

    Manuka honey.

Manuka honey is only use in New Zealand for confectionary. Problem is their bees work many more days a year than ours and for about six weeks they forage on the Manuks bush/tree. Consequently they have an awful lot of Manuka honey but with no great domestic market for it. Many of you will...

    Girls having a party.

Girls happily cleaning up crushed comb from a couple of frames. Only one wasp gate-crasher (not many around this year.) They're leaving the wax lovely and clean. Going to make a great candle or two.

    Wasp nest removal.

I was asked tonight to remove a wasp's nest for a friend from their garden shed. I believe the nest is pretty accessable. With thick trousers and heavy jumpers underneath my bee suit, I intend just using a scraper and dropping the nest into a heavy-duty bin bag. I think smoke is unnecessary...

Keith - information on Dublin mountain heather.

Hi Keith. I just spoke to a beekeeper who lives in Kildare and he brings some hives to the heather every year. He said it's difficult to call exactly when the ling heather comes into bloom but he said hives should be in place by the beginning of August. He said the bloom lasts from early...

    Smokers and poultry feathers.

According to Clive de Bruyn, poultry feathers added to the smoker material produces hydrogen sulphide which he claims calms the bees. Anyone every try this for when the girls are extra 'narky'?:sifone:
