    The Beekeeping Show 2024

Surprised not to have seen a thread about this? Maybe I’ve missed & if so apologies. Spent a day at the trade exhibition in Telford on Saturday. Really pleased that this appears to be growing into the event that the original BeeTradeX was. Well supported with a large number of European...

    MAQS - Formic Pro

I see that the next generation of MAQS is landing on the UK shores - intrigued why you’re now unable to use with supers in place whereas this wasn’t the case with MAQS. Anyone able to enlighten me? Although I never used MAQS with supers in place prior to extraction there’s always a super in...

As per the title - at least it missed two of the seven. A little damaged but now sort of back together so should be okay until moved elsewhere. Lots of firewood!

Using a Fridge to Set Honey

The usual problem at this time of year for me - ambient temperature of 20-25 degrees causing issues with trying to get soft set to ‘set’ and then when it eventually does, forms larger crystals than ideally wanted. I say this as I do seed my soft set and when producing at cooler times of the year...

    Gas / Steam Wax Melters

Does anyone use the type of stainless steel with gas burner under that are now available through a number of manufacturers? https://www.abelo.co.uk/shop/wax-melting/gas-steam-wax-melter-stainless-steel-insulated/ The dilemma of dealing with old frames is one I have yet to sort. Some do get...

A Wasp but not of the flying type

Found this on one of the hive stands today - couldn’t miss it as a fair old size. Turns out to be a Wasp spider, unfortunately predates on grasshoppers not wasps.......

    Jar Filling Machines

Considering taking the plunge and investing in a jar filling unit plus table such as the Swienty Dana Api Matic with turntable. A query to those who may have this unit - is the 70cm turntable large enough or better to go with the 100cm turntable? Fillers are now available from a number of...

Nec, birmingham - good greasy spoon cafe

Visiting the NEC in the near future, does anyone have a recommendation of a good greasy spoon cafe to get a decent breakfast? We’ll be travelling along the M6 from the Kettering direction, ate at the on site Weatherspoon's last time round...........don’t really want to repeat that exercise.

    Abelo Creamer Settings

Hi All. Current default settings on my unit are 15mins stir, rest 1hr, speed setting of 67% - does anyone do anything different? I’ve currently dropped speed setting down to 40% and it seems to be doing what I want - stirring without introducing air and honey is of the correct appearance.

    Honey Mousse

An initial trial run with an Abelo creamer has left me with a bucket of Honey Mousse - any suggestions on how to remove the air that has been incorporated into the Honey? The 30lb bucket (drained off from the creamer) is approx 2/3rds full of which I think is half ‘n’ half - mousse on...

    Honey Room Construction

Exciting times - a dedicated honey processing room is in the planning. Walls are to be insulated timber frame construction over an insulated concrete slab, any suggestions what to use for internal wall/ceiling/floor finish? A washable surface for sure, being a tad lazy thought I would throw the...

    Seeding Honey

Seeding honey has always been a bit hit and miss for me in the past so I've relied on stocks of OSR to satisfy the creamed/set customers. This years OSR was pretty much non existent (again!) & I now find myself dabbling in the black arts again with some success I'm pleased to say. My query to...

    Cassette Style v Standard Extractor

Hi Folks. The latest trend with extractors seems to be swinging cages to hold frames that then almost extract in a tangential fashion - anyone have any experience of these? More efficient than the traditional radial frame type? No difference? Cheers in anticipation
