Sorry boss. I can't start work at 9 for the winter, someone thought it would be a great idea for my 7 year old to start school at 10 instead of 9. I would leave them to get themselves to school but it is illegal. I assume I won't be sacked! Can't really see that washing. Farming is a completely...

I'm with you. If we were on BST all year round, it would mean it was pitch black until after 9am in the winter. Try getting kids into school in the dark every morning. It must be even worse further north. At least it is lightish at both ends of the day for them. Over a century ago, you wouldn't...

    seed viability

I always end up with a lot of tomato seedlings which are variety unknown. It is one of the joys of the wormery. When you feed them tomatoes the seed sits in the most gorgeous compost so as soon as you use it and it gets some light you can almost guarantee quite a few tomato seedlings to be...

    Bee based COVID vaccine

Yes, dog in a manger springs to mind. Millions of unused doses but still threats, threats, threats.

Just for some fun.... an excuse to smile.

Get a couple of khaki campbells. They lay more eggs than my warrens, are really reliable layers through the winter and are slug demolishing machines!

    Bee based COVID vaccine

I can't believe they are now inviting over 50s in for jabs. Me, hubs and brother in law all in on Friday. Little sister at 48 has to wait still.

New to beekeeping looking for cedar hives

No, as you have not been able to provide any remotely believable environmental evidence, I think supporting local jobs and the economy will be a logical driver for me.

New to beekeeping looking for cedar hives

Can you provide us with some figures to back that up please. Seeing that WRC already has to travel further by road than it would in the UK, ignoring the boat altogether, your assertions at the moment seem pie in the sky. I am happy to be proven wrong but without any supporting evidence, I am...

    Poly Hive Prices

Maisemore's prices all went up before the sale. I put some stuff in the basket to buy then read there was going to be a sale in a couple of weeks so didn't purchase there and then. I went back a week or so later to add a couple more things and got the message that items in the basket had changed...

How many jars of honey in a year?

Same here, but I store the frames full frames in airtight boxes and just put the super back on with fresh frames. They all get extracted together and once that is done they go back to the bees to remove any residual honey then go back into the boxes to overwinter, ready to be put back in supers...

How many jars of honey in a year?

Me too. I can't lift from that height. I am on a hillside so ladders are really not a sensible option. All my stands have to be custom fit to the terrain. Not a leg on them is the same length, and before you say change the terrain, the ground is very stable and rocky (in other words, bloody...
