Hi Robbie, I couldn't see where you said about the seven day inspection. Are you sure that there were no eggs in the play cups when you first saw them?

Red cedar in this country is known as Cedar of Lebanon which is traditonally used to keep moths out of wardrobes and chest of drawers. Western Red Cedar is safe for bee hive use.

Why is there no standard format or regulation

The reason I ask is that I've been reading the thread about the bee supplier in Essex with interest. I've also seen someone recently selling bees who will refund your money if foul brood is found within 30 days. I don't know if they are a concerned supplier or knows something about their bees...

    Drone activity

I've had a swarm for just over a week and they seem busy drawing comb, collecting and storing pollen and nectar. I checked the hive today and spotted the queen but no eggs. Just been watching the hive and saw the queen disappearing inside and lots of drones flying around and going in and out. Do...

Angry farmer wants me to move hive

If the farmer continues to be quite so hostile you could ask if he is going to take out insurance as he is renting out his stable and is he going to declare his rent to the Inland Revenue. You are more likely to biten by horse flies then the horses being bothered by bees.

Pinching or Flicking Stings - Makes No Difference!

I've not tried it on bee stings but it does work really well on other types of bites and stings if you put on asap. It does smell but only for a minute or so.

    Attempted Reginacide

Just looking at the hive and could see two bees having a bit of a scuffle on the ground then realised with horror that one was HM. The worker was dead by the time I put my gardening gear down. Carefully picked up HM and put her on the landing board which she walked around for a minute or so...

    New swarm busy

Housed a swarm on Weds evening and bees seem to be quite happy. Put a small feeder in on Friday but the bees don't seem that interested. They are busy drawing out comb but have started at one end and are working their way into the middle. Could this be a problem or should I just let them get on...
