    Eggs here there and everywhere

Now that makes sense. Does it mean the Queen would still lay in all boxes or only the lower ones?

    Eggs here there and everywhere

So I guess it will not yield any honey crop. Is it worth trying to split the colony? Wait for a Queen cell hopefully.

    Eggs here there and everywhere

Just back from inspecting our hives and one , which last week we found the Queen ABOVE the excluder, put her back in the brood box, and added another super as it was a brood and 1/2. Guess what? This week eggs in all boxes. Any ideas on what to do? The excluder is in good condition. Thank you...

    Bees at entrance

Yes, Pman, I tend to agree that it must be overheating, they are not overcrowded. Where in New Zealand?

    Bees at entrance

    Bees at entrance

Good morning, Can anybody explain why one of our hives have a larger number of bees, literally, hanging out of the entrance. The others do have some but mostly remain inside, or at the entrance. They have been doing this for some days now. When we inspected, yesterday, there was nothing unusual...

    SUPERS fors and against

So if you end up with a number of supers on a hive I imagine you do not bother inspecting each super you just go to the brood for inspection or inspect one or two supers then the brood?

    SUPERS fors and against

Can anybody tell me what advantages or disadvantages there are with a) Adding many supers or b) Removing each one as it is filled and simply placing a new super in its place?

    After extraction.......what?

Just finished extracting honey from 2 supers. Just put empty super back on hive, above crown board and they have gone mad. Trying to get in the escapes, all around the outside, lots and lots of activity. Is this normal?

    Wasps!!!!

Great advice Karol, however, all of our hives are next to one another in the front garden. If they don't get this one they will get the next or the next or the next...... Thank you for your thoughts.

    Wasps!!!!

Thanks for the advice, this seems the most sensible to us as we have nowhere else to place the hives. Just off to reduce the entrance and put some glass up.

    NOT Runny hunny

Hello one and all, This years honey is not runny, not that it matters I know, but I just wondered if it is OK to gently heat the jar, with honey content, in order to make it clearer and runny again? Your thoughts are welcomed.

Hi Keith, we were at our association prize giving last evening followed by a question time with a panel of our well respected and experienced members. My wife asked a question regarding Ivy, and was told by one of the panel that Ivy is NOT at all good, is sets solid and unless the bees have a...
