    Deformed Wing Virus?

I don't believe so, many of the badly deformed bees were very black, in fact very very black. I've just spotted another earlier thread (couldn't find it on my original search) were somebody has suggested that bees turning black might indicate the presence of pesticides! Perhaps someone might...

    Deformed Wing Virus?

I spotted single bees crawling up the lawn away from my hives yesterday? Some appeared whole as in wings etc, but some had what appears to be deformed wings!! I had a good look through my colonies but could find no evidence of bees with further deformities within other hives! One appeared Q-...

    Varroa Mesh Size

I think I might be misleading you... their original product is fine, I've used it for a couple of years, with plenty of varroa drop. I was looking at alternatives, they have a slightly smaller hole size mesh as an option that is cheaper.... the question was, is it too small for the varroa to...

    Varroa Mesh Size

I'm looking for a supplier of varroa mesh, preferably s/steel... having found The Mesh Company they are offering a good deal on a slightly smaller hole size of 2mm... Is this too small for the varroa to drop through? Or should I stick with the 2.5mm? Mesh Count: 10 holes per linear inch and 100...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Clump of Bees Found a small clump of bees, perhaps 15+ all clinging to a dried juniper twig just outside of the hive entrance landing board on the ground!! Checked no Queen within the small ball, picked each the little darlings up and placed them on the landing board... to be met by a guard...

    Winter Losses

What Next... I'm almost too scared to ask!! I'm in a similar position having lost a late Nuc that was introduced to a National Hive and appeared to build really well... however, a second feeding of fondant this afternoon has confirmed my middle hive has been lost! What to do next with the...

    Strange Brood Cappings

Hi, Just got an e-mail from my Club Mentor, suggested drone laying queen is present... Would be interested to know if this false queen looks similar to a normal queen? As I have marked her already, believing she was a viable queen... Is she a drone laying queen, or a queen that only lays...
