    Wax and syrup

I'd hold onto any frames of stores for a few weeks at least. It might be spring like for a few days now but if it turns wet and cool a few frames of stores may be a godsend.

Labour to end exemptions from ban on neocotinids

Matt Ridley's article was interesting IMHO, banning one class of pesticide in the hope of limiting pesticide use is not a black and white scenario with no trade offs or unintended consequences. Matt Ridley was also Chair of Northern Rock from 2004-2007........and his uncle, Nick Ridley, was one...

Labour to end exemptions from ban on neocotinids

Gene editing to develop a virus yellow resistant sugar beet might make a difference. Gene editing of commercial crops is only possible due to new regulations post-Brexit. The limited size of the UK market for sugar beet seed might be a barrier to commercial development but the research is being...

    Stock-karte.de Inspection cards

This popped up on my Instagram, an inspection record that goes on the hive rather than a piece of paper under the roof or a phone app. I like the simplicity but can see some flaws. No capacity to record brood quantity or disease concerns, lack of Varroa treatment record, honey harvested, dates...

    Raw honey

A lot of hope being invested in the judge using the word 'may' in the remark '....it may be that clearer guidance or regulation would assist consumers and producers'. Judges are careful with words and he could have used different words (must, paramount importance, urgency etc) if he'd wanted to...

    Raw honey

For non-subscribers, attached is a PDF version of the FT article. It's quite a detailed article, well worth a read. The Guardian article in the OP is clearer in some ways though For me personally I think any change to the law is not a good idea, I'd find it near impossible to produce runny...

    The Beekeeping Show 2024

A quick check against some BFA prices - round jars more expensive with BFA, hex jars more expensive at show.

    Yes, including lids.

    The Beekeeping Show 2024

Rawlins were there taking jar orders and I think the cost was lower than the current BFA offer. £40 per box of round 282ml jars (=340g honey) delivered FOC, no minimum order quantity.

    New EU honey labelling rules.

I think this is related to this post Honey fraud I think for honey this has been agreed for the EU. As others have noted above if the UK is now seen as having looser regulations..................... Main elements of the provisional agreement Honey The provisionally agreed text maintains the...

    Aerated blocks for hive stand

I think the lighter ones are more likely to weather due to frost and damp when in direct contact with the soil. At least that's what my local builders merchants have insinuated when I've bought some. Pilates type exercises if 18kg is a deal breaker, a full super is not that much less.

Small heater for only one or two jars

Could you use smaller jars to shorten the time between jarring up clear honey (or warming it to get it liquid again) and finishing each jar.

    Creamer conversion ideas?

I have a Lyson heated 50l creamer, it's way more substantial than an extractor. Stirring set honey needs a lot of force and also generates some strong twisting forces. I don't think an extractor would withstand these.

    Ross Rounds?

    Candle making trouble shooting

Thanks both, will try using my warming cabinet to pre-warm the moulds and then slowly cool the poured candles.

    Candle making trouble shooting

Making a few candles using silicone moulds, I often get the cavities shown below as the wax solidifies. The wax was at 70-71°C when poured, room and mould temperature was 18°C. Any tips please on how to correct? I have been pouring some more wax in once they have cooled but would prefer to get...
