    Attracting a swarm

Harking back to the beginning of the thread, before we really got to evil bees, "if we have any issues with main hive. I will be talking to the other beekeeper." It is often cited that a frame of eggs from another hive - thinking bee buddy - is a good idea and it is. Consider however that the...

"Move to" apiary site in West London / Surrey wanted

I had an interestingly large colony this year. The occasion was apparently the going over of the OSR. I was getting a bit of a pasting, so after a brief inspection, I shut up and retreated 75m to the car. The smoker had been given a good seeing to but personally it was restricted to pinging the...

New tech approaches to understanding hive health - Video and Data Analytics

2 weeks of stored data Hello KTemby, I like the expedient of keeping a back-log of data/video stored locally, so that it can be collected at an apiary visit to supplement sketchy or non-extant wifi internet links. The practice has been used on trans-global High Altitude Balloon flight, where...

    The Great Honey Heist !

What's in the order of origin I don't suppose for one minute that any of the packers mark their honey Non EU and EU honey as opposed to EU and Non EU honey to indicate relative content where appropriate?

    itma?

Frisby is alive and well, as am I. Just visiting less often as life includes other activities that also consume a lot of time. Prevarication being a major activity here at the moment. Bees all OK too. Big hello to all and looking for a cold dry winter and a lovely spring in 2016.

    Granulating oil seed rape honey

Once a bucket of granulated honey is melted back to liquid it can be seeded with a soft set honey, normally 1:10 seed:melted honey. Stirred well to distribute the seed evenly you should be good. Best temperature for this is probably around 14 degrees C, so may be slow in the summer...

What exactly is the law about stolen bees?

Ha ha, they check the bees once a month . . . that tells you everything you need to know. All the evidence will probably have been eaten. Cushy billet.

Bonding metal to plastic - bee safe

Grab your Cyanocrylate superglue from a Pound shop. As long as the turnover is good then it should be nice and fresh.

Yes, I realised that John, but many thanks for the heads up which will possibly be of use to others. Hopefully it's something and nothing and will be back before we know it.

How high can you stack supers?

If necessary, use a sheet of newspaper and unite the super with a colony that hasn't got quite as many boxes on. Same or different hive stand.

moving bees close to other apiaries

If he's truly busy and you think that he is moving in on your forage, close to your bees, then he won't mind if you put extra bait hives into your apiary, will he? Life's too short . . . Perhaps whilst occupying your attention with his hives, he is actually seeing your wife.

    cant believe some people!!! Again

Nice clear CCTV so that when anyone steals you have footage to put on line to name and shame. Just be sure to have the honey and box within your property boundary. No need to call them thieves, but the let the video speak for itself.

    Dave-Cushman.net unavailable?

I haven't had cause to access the Dave Cushman website as maintained by Roger Patterson for some time, but this evening it appeared to be unavailable . . . Does anyone have any light to shed on this or have I just tried to access it whilst it is down for maintenance?

    why 12mm beespace!!

Standard convention suggests that the depth of your box, be it super or brood box, should be nominally 10mm greater than the frame width. This will give you a nominal 10mm bee space and any slight variation will be . . . Nominal :) Remember that when you build a box from a plan, that it is your...
