    Asian hornet APP

In response to the “what should I tell my 15 members to be doing at the next meeting” and what should hobby BK’s be doing in areas where there are no AH teams on the ground already - organise your members to establish a network of monitoring stations to do a brief time limited coordinated...

    Asian hornet APP

Why will your hives die? It’s unlikely at this stage that the numbers of AH nests in the UK will kill off the hives like they “might” be doing in France. Lots and lots of talk of mussles and electronic harps etc but surely the cheapest and best defence against AH at this stage is to have...

    Asian hornet APP

If you were “invited” presumably by email I would be asking where they got your address from and looking at a potential GDPR breach

    Asian hornet APP

I don’t understand why anyone would use anything other than the official NNSS APP. I assume that the creator is on this forum, so they can explain the rational. If they aren’t in this forum then they are a bit ignorant of how beekeepers are organised in the Uk and how we work with the NBU/APHA/DEFRA

    British Bee Charity

I saw this, it has an income of £26k, with 20 volunteers, BBKA £995K with 6 staff (feels like really good value) compared to Bumblebee conservation trust £1.8M and 50 staff! Amazed that some of the companies they have attracted haven’t questioned their ability to deliver on what they are saying.

    British Bee Charity

I bought some oats today, which came with “free wildflower kit and membership to The British Bee charity”. Anyone else seen this and been equally irritated by the hyperbole on their website “British” but only appear to be based in Surrey, offering Honey beekeeping courses, in Surrey “you’ve...

    Rotary Wax Melter reviews

Have a chat with the suppliers at the spring convention, they will be happy to talk you through the options depending on what it is you need.

    Rotary Wax Melter reviews

The cappings screw did cross our minds, as did the api-melter, but felt that this was what the club needed for members to render reasonably large amounts of wax. We also have a couple of wallpaper stripper type devices for members to use at home.

    Rotary Wax Melter reviews

Our branch has the Konig version, Wax Melting Centrifuge - Old Castle Farm Hives a bit of a beast if I’m honest, but does the job fairly well. Members bring their old frames to the branch apiary to do their wax extraction

    Oxalic acid

sorry, what do you mean APC?

    Oxalic acid

The OA thing is a bit of a farce. We all know we are using OA, and a multitude of academics refer to OA in publications. This whole charade brings the whole treatment and medications limitations and directives into disrepute. I was wondering if there would be a difference between any off the...

    Honey with royal jelly

I am just back from Northern Spain, and as always checked out the honey for sale. I was intrigued to see lots of places selling honey with a certain percentage of royal jelly, around 8% if my memory serves me right. My Spanish wasn’t sufficiently good enough to ask How? They also declare a...

    Low Varroa in ‘23

    No

    Low Varroa in ‘23

I do feel that my point has been missed. I am not saying I have no varroa, just that typical evidence of varroa, DWV, actual mites on bees, floor drop and drone culling have shown much lower varroa evidence this year across 35 hives in 10 separate apiaries. I will still be treating once the HB...

    Low Varroa in ‘23

2023 has been an interesting year weather wise in the NW, with a long hot dry spell and then a cold wet spell with over 300% more rain in Preston Than average. Curiously I am seeing very little evidence of varroa damage across all my hives and multiple apiaries. Usually at this time year I am...

Nope certainly did not do that,

    Value in beekeeping email

I honestly don’t recall doing so. That’s why I am curious to know if anyone else has the email. I am seriously tempted to enquire.

    Value in beekeeping email

I can’t recall registering with “value in beekeeping” but they have sent me an email today offering queens for sale. Whilst I can unsubscribe I am curious as to where they got my email address from, and if this constitutes a breach of GDPR somewhere. Anyone else got the email and feel equally...

    Treating bee stings with heat.

I have to say, that after limited use as we have only had it for a couple of weeks now, that it has worked reasonably well. I am at a stage where I don’t react to bee venom, but it has worked well on horse fly bites. I realise they aren’t the same. My partner did get a sting on the palm of her...
