    Creamed honey that went solid

You need to get your osr honey to a liquid first then let it cool then add 10% of your seed honey, a soft set you like the texture of, stir it in well, stir every day for at least a week. I then leave it at least another week before jarring.

    Stingless bees

I always remember when I was new to bee keeping that if the bees did not sting all you would have is a box of flies..

    Lidl Jam maker

It has made me start thinking. I do have a honey warmer (Old Fridge and a bulb) but do have a water bath for cooking sous vide, which would do a number of jars at once.

    Sublimox, inverter and battery.

If you only had a few to do, I made a vapouriser for use with a battery for less than a fiver. I used a 12v mug water heater with a 15mm compression end stop which screwed into the element. I ran 2 did the job for a few years before getting something more substantial..

    Undecrystallisable Honey

I did not have a honey warming cabinet so made one out of an old fridge that was not working and a 40w light bulb. Put the bulb in the bottom covered with a piece of wood and foil, to stop direct heat. Put a bucket of honey in 20-30lbs and it will liquify it in a couple of days. Any honey that...

    Home made vapouriser

I have been having a play with a 12v element for boiling water in a cup which had been listed on an auction site. The version I had was 200w (£6) and am now waiting for a 120w version (£3). For the bowl I used a copper compression fitting blanking cap. This is the type that screws inside a...

    Holiday and swarm control?

I had a similar situation about 7 weeks ago. I did an artifiicial swarm and took two further frames with brood and QC's on and put in a NUC, came back from holiday, reunited two. In the meantime some bees from somewhere had swarmed at set up home in an empty hive, drawing out comb from the crown...

    Bees Clustering by the entrance

Re better airflow for honey making Is this the main reason yeilds are lower? The bees themselves seem pretty content. I was interested in the the framed horizontal hive, do you have any other details. I wish I had a vertical TBH for a further comparison, anyone out there with a warre seen...

    Bees Clustering by the entrance

Hi all I have one top bar hive and 3 nationals and a nuc. The bees on the nationals just fly in and out whereas on the TBH there is a round 20 -30 bees just hanging around the outside. Is this something I need to be concerned about?
