Thanks for all your suggestions.....Yes I think selecting for a docile bee is a good idea nd i will try a different smoker fuel/water/sugarsyrup spray....... I tried using a mask meant for people in cities to protect against smoke, emissions and pollen which is okay but doesnt block the smoke...

I have become very sensitive to using smoke on my bees. Could anyone suggest any alternative methods or ways to reduce the effects of the smoke? I currently use hemp in my smoker....is there anything else that produces smoke that would be less harmful? I dont like the idea of spraying the bees...

Why dont you use a couple of old brood combs-these are the best bait for attracting swarms by far. If you dont have any you may be able to get some off a beekeeper at your local association or some here on the forum. I've attracted 2 swarms this year just from bait hives with old combs in.

Seems like quite a good deal but I dont like the look of the roof- its too shallow and I think thjiks would be false economy in the long term

Bees hate any hairy or wooly fibre clothes natural or the synthetic fake fleece type, especially dark colours and red I have found.
