    Laying worker issue

Not everywhere, the were 'together though' not in random places here and there. All in one section on one frame only of 3. Similar yes, just eggs not developed. They seemed to be being ignored by the workers? Hmmm , thanks I'll give it some time then. Jon

    Laying worker issue

Hello, I hope you can offer some advice please. I've got two hives, one which is doing very well building up from the winter. Another not so good. The later hive has a queen present, some sealed working brood but also noticed were multiple eggs in cells, some eggs over collected pollen. There...

    Apiguard

Hi, Ones I have used last year were removed and then binned. In the opened pack, I have some unused strips which I was planning on using this year - I did not know if by opening them I should have discarded them anyway, even if not used in an hive. Thanks,

    Apiguard

Hi all, 2nd year of bee keeping - I used Apiguard last year, all be it a little late. Am I okay to treat my bees with the same items this year, I assume it does not 'expire'? Thanks,

My bees swarmed but I'm not sure why

Thanks guys. My gut feeling was they left as there was not enough room - they were hanging out the front at night due to the amount of bees in there (I might have added a few more frames of brood than I should have). Had a look again today, they seem rattled and no queen in there that I could...

    2017 NUCs - Sleaford Lincolnshire

Hi, I will have a couple of 2017 NUCS for sale in a few weeks. £125 for the bees on frames - can deliver if local or £175 in a new poly NUC with frames. The queens are marked, laying well and from early on this year. I have two currently :) Jon

My bees swarmed but I'm not sure why

Hello :) My artificial split bees, which had reared their own queen decided to swam today and I'm not exactly sure why. I'd completed an artificial queenless split about a 1.5 months ago and the colony was in a 6 frame NUC. They reared their own queen, and though I'd seen no eggs seemed happy...

    Queenless split advice

Good news - found her this evening and marked her (after a right mess about with the plastic foam type plunger contraption for getting hold of the queen).

Artificial swarms but only have spare nucs...

So, I'm quite new at this also (2 years) but I'll try and help as it can be quite 'full on' making these decisions. The situation you describe does not quite make sense. Were the cells you found opened, hence the 2 queens you found in the hive? It should work, the queenless original hives...

    spare sealed queen cells

Hi guys, I have 3 great sealed queen cell which I have no use for - they were removed from queenless splits. Right now they are sat not that far away from my AGA, keeping warmish. Is there anything I can use them for, mini nucs for an example or should I destroy them? Thanks,

    Queenless split advice

Hi, So I checked today and on the frame I put in 4 days ago there are no attempt of creating queen cups/cells. There are a couple of play cups on another old frame but nothing with brood in and they might have been old ones. Still can't see the queen - so I'm stumped.

    Split hives

Hi guys, When doing a queenless split I've read in numerous places that you should remove all but 1 or 2 of the queen cells, leave them then check for a laying queen. What would happen if you didnt do this, would you end up with cast swarming? The reason for asking is that I've just completed...

    Queenless split advice

If I find they are creating a load of queen cells in 2-3 days - the process starts again I assume and just wait and see? I've got a couple of other hives with multiple 'nearly sealed' queen cells - are these okay to move from there in to this hive to speed things up? Thanks, Jon
