    Learning from mistakes

So taking inspiration from another thread altogether. What silly mistakes have people made this year that they wont make again? To start the ball rolling Put a clearer board under two supers which happened to contain a few frames i had my eye on for "Frame ready for extraction" at our branch...

Wasps, wasps and then a few more

Have lost one of my colonies to wasps. When opened up this evening I was met by the sight of a box full of wasps, if I had to guess at numbers it would be well in excess of 500. I had reduced the entrance down to about an inch but still they succumbed. This colony had recently lost its queen...

The bees who were shaken onto the new foundation...

Both seem to be building up well and the field/orchard is a mass of buttercups at the moment. Had a bit of a drama when the farmer who owns it moved his calves there to...

Will 2009 bee a year to remember

This blog hopefully will serve as a record of my bee keeping exploits this year. I started Bee keeping last year 2008 by joining my local association and signing up for their free bees scheme. I got my nuc towards the end of June so only had a short time to bring them up to strength for the...

Why some men keep dogs (rather than have a wife)

Why Some Men Have Dogs And Not Wives: 1. The later you are, the more excited your dogs are to see you. 2. Dogs don't notice if you call them by another dog's name. 3. Dogs like it if you leave a lot of things on the floor. 4. A dog's parents never visit. 5. Dogs agree that you...
