had picked a stock to breed from,wall to wall brood gentle good honey storage so far,then found queenie smaller than average does this rate in breeding assesment,also had 6 half drawn queen cells would she be slimming pre swarm
noticed today the bees had found the local oil seed rape,little dot on heads both going in and comming out of hive no pollen on legs 50%of bees with orange pollen on legs.never saw bees comming out with yellow heads before
what is the insulation value of wrapping a hive during winter in the bubblewrap used for glasshouse insulation ,any insulation value as id like to insulate some hives but still keep the original roofs
Got a present of 2 large honey settling tanks +filters they are tinplate (i think)
are they suitable for purpose nowadays,have always used food grade plastic

Looking through some of my hives found 5 with average of 4/6 frames of perfect brood in all stages ,queen present and laying but 1 to 2 queen cells per hive,verry few drones around,despatched queencells.What would others do?

In our association we have 1 commercial beekeeper ,a whisper of a member getting a good yield from an area and he locates hives in the area close to the beekeepers apiary.What are the feelings about deliberately siting hives close to other apiaries
