    Beekeeping membership software

Thanks Muswell, It doesn't look like many people are using any sort of subscription software. I wonder why? Maybe it doesn't work too well. Regards

The old lady next door made me laugh

on one of those bad driving programmes that have been on recently, a husband asked his wife why she kept loosing hub caps and scuffing the wheel rims. The reply was " I blame the council for putting the kerbstones too far into the road" I gave a talk at an environment day at a local business...

    MAQs treatment. 7 day report

Beauhawk, thanks I hadn't seen that one. It seems as though MAQs does cause mortality in the bees and as someone in that thread says, "it goes off with a bang" I've used Hivemakers recipe for the last few years. Guess what I'll be using next year! I'll see if I can recover some of the dead...

    MAQs treatment. 7 day report

I was right to be worried Checked this morning and all 3 colonies have several hundred bees dead on the ground. I opened all the colonies and removed the MAQs strips. The OMFs on all 3 were covered in dead/dying bees. Could someone who has successfully used MAQs talk me through their method...

    MAQs treatment. 7 day report

Worried I've not been on the forum for many months but I used MAQS on my hives this afternoon. I checked on them about an hour later and the bees were making the same noise as when I had to destroy a hive due to AFB by pouring petrol on them. Not something I ever wanted to hear again. I...

    P**nes Poly Hives

I like mine The bees overwintered very well and early spring they were miles ahead of my other 3. I don't use the crown board as I've replaced it with a piece of thin poly sheet cut so that it overhangs the edges by 3 or 4 cm. No crushed bees. I agree with the idea of a framed QX to fit the...

Biopotency and activity in honey - what does it mean?

I've just read in the June 2012 edition of Beecraft about Chilean Rainforest honey. The article on page 5 quotes "The 100% pure Chilean honey is derived from the unpolluted and uninhabited volcanic areas of Chile and is incredibly potent because it is raw and unpasturised to maintain activity...

Poly Hive - which to buy?

My decision As I opened this poll I thought I ought to enlighten you as to which poly hive I bought. It was P*y**s or ******* as it now appears in the poll. Looks very good. Let's see what the bees make of it this season. Thanks for all your comments.

Poly Hive - which to buy?

I would like to try a poly hive this season. It has to be National or 14 x 12 and compatible with my wooden supers. So far I've found 3 suppliers Paynes, Modern Beekeeping and Beehive Supplies. I've trawled through numerous posts on here and still can't decide. :banghead: Which one would you...

    Security Bee

EB, Thanks for your suggestions, I have looked at the Inscentinel website. I was particularly interested in having the BBC video. Someone else is doing a talk on "Bee Diseases" and I thought it might offer some light relief ;) I'll see if I can get it off iPlayer or maybe someone will post...

    Staining of pollen grains

Hi BCrazy, I haven't been on this forum for a while  so just found this post by you. What were your final conclusions about the stains? If you can't post pictures then a few words about each stain would be helpful. I use Fuschin in glycerine jelly but find it a bit slow to stain. Maye...

    Sourdough bread recipe

I used Hugh's recipe and found it worked fine. I keep the "mother" in the fridge. Take it out the night before to get it working again. If you find it gets a dark looking liquid floating on the top, just stir it in. I gave a bit to my brother-in-law and he is now making sourdough bread...

    Any Ubuntu experts?

Bros, took your advice and installed "Mint". So far it looks OK. What do you do about drivers for things like microscopes? I have 2 USB ones.

Epi pen for personal use only!

My doctor prescribed me an Epipen "just in case" and didn't explain how to use it. She has now emigrated to Australia .... A fellow beekeeper attended our 2 weekly apiary meetings and got stung a few times with the usual local swelling. However, he got a single sting whilst watching his bees...
