    Hive tools and washing soda

True, I have one hive myself but plan to get another next year and also, when I can, attend the Associations "Bee nights" so do handle other hives, although I got a second hive tool for this. I was just trying to follow good hygiene, whether one hive or not, surely that's best practice? Also...

    Hive tools and washing soda

Just wondering what people do. Do you store your tools in a solution of washing soda and water or do you soak them for a bit, dry off and store dry? I've been washing mine in hot soapy water, soaking them for a couple of hours in soda solution, drying off and then storing dry but someone else...

    Daft idea or not?

that's why I love this place, all the differing points of view IT was more for keeping the rain off to reduce the chances of damp getting in the hive really. I'm in Lancashire, near Accrington Hive is in the garden ina fairly sheltered spot and not particularly windy (side of big garden...

    Daft idea or not?

I was wondering about getting one of those cheapie gazebos from Wilkos/Argos to put up over the hive for the winter, mainly to keep the rain and possibly snow off and to provide a bt of cover for if I ever need to do anything (oxalic acid etc) Obviously I don't intend opening up the hive in...

    Selling from home works!

I thought you had to conform to all kinds of regulations before you could sell your honey?? I've kind of got round it with friends by selling them an empty jar and then filling it for honey for "free" The same goes for my soap making hobby. Friends buy the ingredients and I turn them into soap...
