    Right/wrong with society

Have heard some interesting discussion about this story today... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-15248021 So, does this case highlight everything that is wrong with society - i.e - suppression of talent, inflexibility etc, or does it highlight everything that is wrong with the...

    Chicks???

I may be going a bit loopy but I'm sure I have just heard the sound of chicks coming from one of my bird boxes. I saw a bluetit come out of there earlier today but didn't think it could possibly be nesting. I hope I am mistaken, the poor things won't stand a chance.:(

    Ranges & wood-burners

I'm currently thinking about replacing my ageing range and wood-burner with something a bit more efficient and environmentally friendly. We currently have a very old Rayburn Royal (solid fuel) and a Coalbrookdale Much Wenlock. Both are pretty inefficient and can only be kept going overnight with...

    co-evolution of bees and plants?

Interesting article. Sorry if it's already been posted somewhere else on the forum. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-15068454 Perhaps another suggestion that monoculture is bad for bees?

    DLW in super?

Would appreciate some advice on this... I put a clearer board (with porter escapes) on a hive at my out apiary in order to clear a partially filled super. Anyway, I forgot all about it for over a fortnight. I went back to check today and found that there were still about 100 bees in...

National Bee Unit husbandry survey 2011

Anyone else had an e-mail asking them to take part in the above? It says "randomly selected" - I'm just interested how many people they ask. Also, what do people think about the survey? (yes, I freely admit to poking a stick into the hornet's nest of FERA conspiracy-theorists!):troll:

    Waggle dance - really?

Hi, At the weekend I was doing a routine inspection on one of my hives. I took out a frame, laid it flat in the upturned hive roof, then wandered off for a minute to get something which I had misplaced. When I returned, I swear one of the bees on the frame was doing the waggle dance. I watched...

    Apiary site needed

:)Hi, I'm getting a bit swamped with hives at my home apiary so am looking for somewhere nearby to site a new out-apiary. Just wondered if anyone knew of a suitable site anywhere in the Cain / Tanat Valley area or, at a push, Welshpool. Preferably somewhere well away from footpaths or prying...

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me fathom this out. I collected a swarm last night as per... http://www.beekeepingforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=11463 I've just been called back to the same location to find about 30 bees hanging around the spot where the swarm settled. They are definitely not...
