    Anyone got an explanation?

Oh Ok - my misunderstanding of the mechanics of swarming. Have not looked for eggs yet - just did check quick enough to see the queen was there and have left them to get on with it for a bit, will check at the weekend.

    Anyone got an explanation?

I did an AS two weeks ago. Hive B : Old queen (marked but not clipped) in new hive on old position, one frame with her, no queen cells on it, rest of hive with foundation, full super on top. Hive A: Old hive, new position, with queen cells. So far so text book (i hope!) On Friday, the colony...

    Moving bees

Depends on where in France babnik42 is surely - if its warm/mild area then bees may be flying in winter

    Moving to Double Brood Box

I overwintered two colonies on double brood last year, One came through fine, rising to the top box, The other came through very weak - all my fault as I found I had left the varroa board in most of the winter so the OMF was negated. DOH! Hive came through very damp and mouldy. In both cases I...

    Too windy to swarm?

Ha ha Sam great pic.. Thanks for all replies, have just done it as it was getting warmer. Glad I did, one capped QC and several on the way, reckon they were about to go. All done. As long as I haven't made same mistake as last year then all should be well.....:)

    Too windy to swarm?

Are high winds likely to reduce likelihood of bees swarming on a particular day? I need to do an AS but it feels way too chilly and way too windy to inspect. Its 7 days since I was last in and they were making QCs last time in which I knocked out to give me some time - the weather has been too...

What to do with part-filled super from last season?

At the end of the season last year I removed a part-filled super from each of my two hives - the honey was mostly/partially uncapped. I have stored these sealed in my shed over winter. What can I do with these now - will the honey have fermented and therefore it would not be advisable to put...

    This years "Cock Up's"

My mistake? Feeling really smug after 'successfully' doing my very first AS only to find the next day that i'd transferred the old queen into the new hive on a frame that had a sealed QC on....doh! This precipitated a chain of events caused by similar numpty mismanagement throughout May,June...

    Question on uniting

I am planning to unite two colonies but they are currently a short way apart from each other and their entrances face different ways (maybe 10 feet apart ATCF, or should that be ATBF but there is a tree/bush in between them so if i were to move them together it would take longer than 3 days at 3...

    Interesting behaviour

Not quite sure I understand. Were you recombining with paper? So the virgin queen and the other are now together (and presumably one is dead?) Or did you halt the recombining? Am I being thick?

Help! Sudden fighting & dead bees

Possibly being robbed - in which case try reducing entrance size.

bees have just killed my chickens?

I'll contest you for that... Started with one hive this May (from nuc last year) and one way or another I've now captured my bees 7 times after a swarm (and had to wave one lot goodbye). On two occasions that was the same swarm taken twice after they poured out of where I put them first time. I...

    The best day ever :)

and when next spring you are 30 foot up an apple tree trying to retrieve your bees after they swarmed for the nth time you will wonder why you ever thought this was a good idea..... no sorry, seriously, enjoy.

    New Queen

Given you have seen eggs every time, isn't it more likely that the 'mark' on the queen simply fell off? Does happen.
