Tax Returns & Charity status Bee Associations

Just wondered whether anyone knew whether as a Bee Association, with income coming in from Membership Fees and a small amount of Honey Sales, whether the group is obliged to submit a Tax Return each year? And leading on from that what are the benefits to an Association becoming a Charity? Many...

Love it thanks Oliver. Can I presume that you would be of the opinion to have nothing to do with them?

Starting a new Bee Association BBKA advice please

Can anyone give me some advice on becoming affiliated to the BBKA with a new Bee Association? Questions are: 1. Does the BBKA have any requirements about the membership or experience of the beekeepers? 2. Does it take into account other Associations in the same area before allowing...

    Supersedure

Happened to me on three hives last year. Of course, it's difficult to prove absolutely it's the MAQs but enough for me to return to ApiGuard this year.

Local Association Show Judges. Your experiences?

So glad I started this thread as I've learnt a lot about shows that, despite eight years beekeeping, I never knew nor have been told before. I get the feeling that the main problem here is lack of communication and I can see both sides to the argument. I can sympathise with a qualified judge's...

Local Association Show Judges. Your experiences?

jenkinsbrynmair If the show is open to the public however, then quite rightly, if any exhibit is not up to standard then it shouldn't get an award, in the end a show is a test of whether we can offer the buyer a quality product = after all do we really want joe public to think that we are happy...

Local Association Show Judges. Your experiences?

Very interesting masterBK. The maxim that shows were introduced to raise standards is a good one but I think the variety of classes has somewhat blurred this intention. What I mean by this is that, in the case of the Honey, presumably the original reason for the show, I think the reasoning is...

Local Association Show Judges. Your experiences?

Hi enrico Absolutely agree in the case of National Honey Show or RHS shows but as you have indicated a Local Association Show is surely a different matter. Take for example the Dorset County Show. The Honey Tent is run by the Local Associations and acts as a much as a place for the public to...

Local Association Show Judges. Your experiences?

Here in Dorset we have just finished the local Honey Shows and as always the thorny topic of judging rears its ugly head. Please don't think I am posting from a position of bitterness. Far from it, I personally secured a range of firsts, second and third prizes. However, a number of entrants...

Advice please on how long one can seal a hive for

Thanks all, especially dpearce4. I think this is what we will do in the circumstances as it does appear that the glazing will take longer than I anticipated. Great idea about pupils helping with the extraction especially as we can now delay it until August now.

Advice please on how long one can seal a hive for

I help look after one bee hive that a school has on its roof in front of some windows from where the pupils can observe it in safety. It is perfectly placed and has been there for a number of years. Access to the hive is via a ladder. Unfortunately, the school need some glazing work done on...

Worst Start to a Season I Can Remember ??

Not good here in Dorset either. It seems to be one step forward, two steps back in terms of store. Most swarms we have ever known though in May. Collected seven for our newbies on one day last week. We have probably had about fifty reported to us so far in East Dorset.

    my May Day fun

We were actually thinking about danger to the public first and foremost, not the bees, private road or not. Anyway, some good has come of this as our Regional Bee Inspector (Defra) has now seen this and is going to use it in his talks as "how not to do a swarm collection" with a notepad for...

Woah, how mature!! It would be more constructive if you improve your beekeeping!

More important that newbies on You Tube saw my comment rather than here where I would be preaching to the converted. But quite happy to repeat them here if you wish.
