    Starting Again

Bait Hive Returning back to bee keeping after years away , I have cleaned up and replaced all the wax in the brood frames. Put on a feeder inside and drizzled some lemon grass around the hive. Any other suggestions how I can attract a swarm or interest.

    Starting Again

I have been working away from home for over 4 x years and intend to start bee keeping again. I feel a little rusty so would appreciate any advice. All my hives were closed down before I left the country and kept inside. Should I destroy all the frames (even though they look ok) and start afresh...

The swarm is located in a nuc on the side of the house approx 50 yards from my hive. Q. how long before i can unite with my present hive I...

    Lost hive

In my defence - The dummy board referred to reducing the empty space and insulating better. The hive was a full national The hive was a result of a June artificial swarm that never really built up past 5 frames Terry

    Lost hive

I feared the worst a week ago when I checked both my hives. The one had very few bees and were not taking any feed. I checked again yesterday and they were dead. I feel it was my fault to some extent not reducing the hive with a dummy board but they so much by the way of stores (5 frames) I felt...

    Bored over Xmas

Made enough frame to last until next year. Thought I would try and make some perspex crown boards for inspections through the summer. Only cost about £3 to make.

    I just wanted to say.

I must be the only beak who does not actually like honey. I just do it because of the enjoyment

Laying just started / test frame / feeding?

Assuming you are -Q in your first hive combining would appear the best route.

    ankle biters

Just returned from a 10 day break in Turkey. Up until now my bees have been really well mannured and I could never understand some of the horror stories about being persued and stung. Not until yesterday. Normal practice , no smoke and minimum PPE. I think they have turned feral on me over the...

    Split sugar bags from Tesco

Asked at the local Asda , the (jobs worth) manager told me it was company policy not to give away any food stuff due to potential litigation. I told him my bees were not that type but fell on deaf ears.

    Small swarm

I have only noticed activity in the last 4 days, therefore asumme it's only been that long since they took residence. Yesterday i placed the nuc about a foot away from the entrance I did consider some sort of pipe work into the nuc.

    Small swarm

I appear to have a new arrival in my garden. A relatively small swarm have taken residence within the bottom an old plastic header tank that the wife usses as a plant holder. They are using the old pipe inlet as the entrance to the new home. Personally I would leave them where they are but the...

    Concerned about the cold

For the last couple of years I have used roof tiles used in suspended ceilings they fit nicely on top of the crown boards. they also absorb some moisture from the inside of the hive.
