Bait Hive Returning back to bee keeping after years away , I have cleaned up and replaced all the wax in the brood frames. Put on a feeder inside and drizzled some lemon grass around the hive. Any other suggestions how I can attract a swarm or interest.

I had better just add that - yes they were treated with apiguard for 4 weeks Yes they were treated with oxylic in December.(very low drop on both hives)

The original queen went into the lost hive (but she was a 2011 good layer)

I feared the worst a week ago when I checked both my hives. The one had very few bees and were not taking any feed. I checked again yesterday and they were dead. Made enough frame to last until next year. Thought I would try and make some perspex crown boards for inspections through the summer. Only cost about £3 to make.

Asked at the local Asda , the (jobs worth) manager told me it was company policy not to give away any food stuff due to potential litigation. I told him my bees were not that type but fell on deaf ears.

I have only noticed activity in the last 4 days, therefore asumme it's only been that long since they took residence. Yesterday i placed the nuc about a foot away from the entrance I did consider some sort of pipe work into the nuc.

I approached the store manager in the shrewsbury branch of Asda last week about damaged sugar. I received a 'jobs worth' story abouthis job and litigation, I did inform him my bees were not part of any union organisation but he would not budge. terry

For the last couple of years I have used roof tiles used in suspended ceilings they fit nicely on top of the crown boards. they also absorb some moisture from the inside of the hive.
