    Feeding

Just checked my hives. Three doing OK but didn't open them up as weather to be horrible tomorrow. I saw pollen going in and all look busy. I did heft but although they feel heavy enough should I maybe feed just in case? To be honest I am thinking no at this time of year but is anyone else...

    Summer harvest?

I should be so lucky as the song says. I have a husband who loves the stuff and I do enjoy it but I really meant its now my main interest for keeping bees. I love everything about them not just that they produce lovely honey. At the moment I have two nucs and three hives. The hives have stored...

    Online shopping

The cost of shipping was 9 pounds then they wanted 12 pounds more. But even thought I cancelled they took the money. They haven't replied to my email yet. Its B who did this. Very annoying as they were cheaper.

    Online shopping

This post probably only applies to folk in N Ireland. But I am so annoyed at the online shops adding a surcharge for sending stuff to NI. I would not mind but one store let me place an order which took ages as I was comparing prices etc and theirs was the most competitive, they quoted a shipping...

    Summer harvest?

I don't think I will have a harvest this year. I have had to feed my two nucs and two of my hives. It hasn't (well it feels like) it hasn't stopped raining all of July. And just when my apiary was finally starting to build up. Maybe August will be better....... I am not really fussed on honey...

    Signs of accepted caged queen?

I watched a video which suggested leaving queen in cage for 7 days. It was Black Mountain bees. I definitely wouldn't be letting her out yet. Not with the price of bees these days.

    Cleaning out a brood box.

I have just spent a horrible rainy day here in NI scrubbing a brood box and old frames. The Bees had died over winter as there was a leak in the roof which I did not notice in time. That's another story. I used my electric heat gun after scraping everything, then washed everything in washing...

    Checking hives. Weather.

There's a lot of garden flowers wild flowers and willow herb. Apparently someone living not far from me now has eight hives would that make a significant difference. Sorry if that's a stupid question but I'm not sure.
