    mouldy wax

    I looked in the brood box today and the frame near the hive wall has gone mouldy on the outer face and there was two big slugs,can anyone explain why?,I have a wire mesh floor,and its the frame nearest the entrance.

    hefting

    I haven't quite mastered hefting so I put a screw into the side of the floor and hooked my carp weighing scales around it,when I lifted it one hive weighed 41lb and the other 37lb,both hives are nationals and have one super on which i left them on when I extracted my honey,when weighing this way...

    bees not taking syrup

    The bees in both my hives haven't taken any sugar syrup down,the feeders have been on for 2 weeks,I have tried trickling syrup down the middle and putting honey down as well but they just took the honey and that was it,anyone got any other ideas?

    apigard with supers on?

    I need to leave a super on while I do my apigard treatment but do I put the eke on top of the brood box (under the super),or on top of the super,I think I need to leave the super on because there is a lot of bees and not enough food in the brood box.

    clearing bees from the supers.

    A friend has got 4 supers of capped honey on his hive,he wants to extract honey from 3 of them,should he clear them 1 at a time or put the clearer board at the bottom of the 3?

    do bees attract bees?

    I just found out today that a lady four doors up had a swarm in her garden last week,she had no idea I keep bees and so she rang the council,but they had moved on by the time he arrived,do bees get attracted by other bees near by or was it just a coincidence?
