My bees put me in hospital

Rast RAST test, like skin testing, is far from 100% reliable either way - even with repeats. It can be helpful as a guide, but beware of any assumptions without considering other medical symptoms and signs.

Swarm after Inspection - What did I do wrong?

So, do have a more plausible explanation? I agree, it all seems a bit odd. That's why I posted. I did accept that I may have missed something - such as a previous supercedure cell. As I explained, this had been the first full inspection of both boxes (and had answered re the eggs).

Swarm after Inspection - What did I do wrong?

An update - I think Polyanwood was probably right. I still have eggs and brood at all stages (and quite a lot of bees too), as I presume my overwintered queen (unmarked) is still laying. Thanks

Swarm after Inspection - What did I do wrong?

Thanks. Although still quite new to this (3rd season) I did feel quite confident that I'd seen all the frames fairly well on this occasion - I did move the bees off here and there too in order to check - and would be surprised if I had missed either full or vacated QC (they don't run and hide...

Swarm after Inspection - What did I do wrong?

There were some eggs. If it were a virgin going off, wouldn't I have expected to have seen one or more empty queen cells? I hope you're right though...

Swarm after Inspection - What did I do wrong?

I've been checking my hive regularly to feed them recently. They're in a National, and this year were in a double brood box, with QE and a super. The super was where I had been feeding. They had been doing well I thought, apart from not having much in the way of stores - hence the feeding...

    weald farm

Tesco usually gives its prices INCLUDING VAT at the going rate. So a £200 item at 20% will include about £33 VAT being 20% of (approx) £167 added to the ex-VAT cost of £167....I think.

but although autoclaving denatures proteins ... skool is still out on if autoclaving removes the CJD protein vector???... Do you need to carry a epipen.

I think you'll find that a doctor does a lot more training than the 5 years for basic medical degree! They even do a couple of days of first aid too sometimes. Vets - well they have to deal with many different types of dumb animals - doctors have only one type to deal with ....

Do you need to carry a epipen.

Epipen It isn't the idea of someone "non-trained" H&S B/S that worries me about Epipens being reasonably available - it's the problem that people think "Oh, I have an Epipen so I'll be OK..." If you have acute type 1 hypersensitivity that is known to progress to anaphylaxis to a particular...

Uniting Colonies - what to do with "spare" bees?

Yesterday I united 2 colonies - (both the remnants of splitting my original colony by AS, only to have the queen take off with a swarm anyway a week later). One has a laying new queen, the other has lots of foragers and plenty of stores but failed to requeen despite several cells (possibly went...

Combine, Requeen or Wait? Advice please.

Many thanks folks - will hang on a bit longer and consider my options. I'm grateful for the opinions received. Hivemaker - bearing in mind I'm hoping to have a couple of robust colonies for the winter, would I not be risking depleting queenright Hive 3 a bit, just when it is getting going...

Combine, Requeen or Wait? Advice please.

I'm still a newbie to beekeeping, but having to learn quickly. Sorry this is a bit long, but it seems a bit complicated to me at least. Started with a nuc (with imported queen) in April this year put into a standard National hive. Doing very well initially, until mid-late June when I found...
