    Brood and a Half

Experimented on one of my hives this year with brood and a half for the first time. Mixed feelings - some good. But that's not the question: Should you over winter with the "half" on top, below or does it matter?

D*** Wasps!!! Which is the best bait?

Had a bit of a problem with wasps in the single hive that is starting up my out Apiary - just 300 yards away from my house. The four hives in my garden do not seem to have a serious wasp problem. The hive in the out apiary was relentlessly being attacked by wasps, with the odd one or two...

    Pollen Super

I have just taken off some supers for extraction. In one of the supers the central frames are full of pollen in the central areas with just a little sealed honey around the edges. 1. Is it OK to extract the little honey in these frames around the edges using the extractor. 2. Will the frames...

    Buckfast Bees

Have just requeened a hive with a Buckfast Queen. Then I came across this: True Buckfast bees can be very gentle, but anyone who has experience of Buckies crossed out with certain other strains will know that they can be the nastiest bees on the block by some margin. Beginners who buy these...

How do I stop robbing when I have limited space ?

I have limited space in my apiary. I have just done a split in a hive, and just requeened the queenless half. Just this afternoon a week after I made the split, the colony with the flying bees has just started robbing the other. Bearing in mind I have only limited space what can I do to stop it?
