I have a few swarm catching boxes out, a 6 frame nuc box with one frame of used comb, one full hive brood box with all frames 5 drawn, and an empty super sitting on a floor, this one is just stored. All have bees going in and out for the past 4 weeks or so, but a lot of defensive action going on...

Has anyone any experience of beekeeping in Spain, over wintering, feeding, temperament (I believe bad tempered), forage, etc. As far as the law goes on Beekeeping in Spain I have found plenty on the web, but not much about the practice of beekeeping and how different it is to the UK. :thanks:

Does anyone else have some cost saving ideas to do with beekeeping: to kick off, over the winter I have been saving the loo roll and kitchen towel tubes, and stuffing them inside one of the tube centers to make smoker fuel (as sold by some larger beekeeping outlets) I put as many in as I can...

Does anyone know what the volume by measurement would be the correct dose of oxalic acid for one litre of syrup. ie 35g weight. Has anyone done this by volume rather than weight? Thanks Steven

Today had a look a the varroa count (after the trays in for 6 days) and was very pleased to find out of four full hives, 2 had none, 1 had 1 and the other had 2. All building up nicely the other hives I have are on solid floors that I will be changing this year. How's everyone else doing? Steven

Had a call to say that a swarm was around my allotment, went down to find the front of the nuc box covered in bees, and some on a board opposite. Was told that a swarm was on the board fully and was now on the front of the nuc box and going inside. The nuc box had/has a virgin queen due to go on...

I have put two of my hives onto double brood, when I put on the second brood box I put it under the main brood box rather than on top as I didn't want to split the old brood box from the super above it which has brood in it, QX in place. The reason for double brood is to give room and slow down...

Everyone knows about the waggle dance, we have seen this done on the comb with interest in daylight. Up at an angle, figure of eight, how far etc, with bees watching, but, how do bees watch this in the hive when it's dark? Just one of the little things about beekeeping that doesn't get answered...

Sat for a while watching the bees coming and going and noticed the vast differents in the colour (patterns) of the bees, some where wasp like (not wasps) but more yellow and black while others are mainly black. These all come from the same queen (no extra brood frames from a different hive)...
