    Frame Making for Basic Assessment

Hi don't worry about how quickly you can make a frame up in a particular way, I very much doubt you would be failed on your frame making. My understanding is the basic is more about encouraging good beekeeping practices and as long as your disease, pest and swam control knowledge is up to speed...

    Varroa life cycle

It's the drones flying between hives/apiaries who will probably be transferring the most mites between colonies and as we know varroa loves the drones. You would have to be pretty damed isolated to avoid this kind of contact.

    queen substance

I am not expert in either field but I would'nt have thought so, as I understand queen substance to be a pheromone rather than a hormone but no doubt you will get some more knowlegable oppinions soon. My advice would be don't rely on it use a prophylactic as well, belt an braces has always been...

    November Flowering OSR

Oh come on boys you make me blush, it is in fact my dog's name referring to the French cute/sweetie, not as some bright spark thought a cut of meat. And they do say owners start to resemble their dog, so maybe cute, dainty and I have been know to belt out a bit of opera and it is comic, so all...

    November Flowering OSR

Hi Chris No I didn't and to be fair hadn't given it a lot of thought, but it does make sense. Can you point me in the direction of where this kind of information can be found or is a google search job? I know it's not vital information for the welfare of our bees as we cannot influence...

    November Flowering OSR

yes I usually have a few acres by me for game cover, it was sown but because of the dry summer we had here it's only just coming through now. But there is a small crop of very stunted sunflowers, the bees have worked them, but it's a rather poor showing.

    November Flowering OSR

Funny you should say that, I saw quite a large field of it near Cholmondeley in Cheshire last Wednesday. But I didn't think to stop and check for bees not worthy

    Sloe gin recipes...

Quince vodka sounds a wee bit yummy, I had been wondering about the possibilities of vodka + quinces. Do you make it to the same principle as sloe/damson gin/vodka? just fruit, spirit + sugar? Many thanks Sarah

    brood cappings

I have always been lead to believe there is pollen in the mix. In my head I thought it so, as it would give the emerging bee a shot of protein, vitamins and minerals as it chomped its way out.......but I can be a wee bit fanciful :nature-smiley-011:

How Long to wait for some brood?

Really Dr Stitson, I don't know what those Italian Queens get up to, but here in Blighty I rather like to think it's a little light courtship, some tentative flirting followed by a long and meaningful relationship. Bunga bunga, Oh my I can't believe it...ha ha Thank you Dr S. you do make me laugh

Hi obviously I don't know where in Shropshire you are or if you have joined one of the Shropshire Beekeeping Associations. But my advice would be for you to take a trip up to Ruthin and visit Wynne Jones for your kit, they sell Th**nes seconds at a good price and they are lovely, helpful people...
