Is it too late to treat with Thymovar?

So between the brood box and the super of honey?

Is it too late to treat with Thymovar?

I’ve had a few really tough weeks family-wise and as a result I’ve got a bit behind. I should have treated my colonies sooner but I didn’t. Is it too late? Also - hive 1 consists of a brood box and one full super on top. If it’s not too late to treat, where does the thymovar strip go?? On...

    Got in a bit of a muddle…

What’s that now!?? Store frames wet?

    Got in a bit of a muddle…

So rather than store supers (with frames in) in a shed I can store them in the hive as long as they’re under the BB? Won’t they get wax moth?

    Got in a bit of a muddle…

Yeah I think so… 😕 it was on offer too so I grabbed it. Still it’ll come in handy. I was hoping to store frames over the winter but it’ll still be handy to freeze them before storing.

    Got in a bit of a muddle…

The freezer I’ve ordered isn’t big enough to hold entire supers 😕 What does “nadir for a week” mean?

    Got in a bit of a muddle…

Wow thank you everyone that’s really helpful. Lets imagine I’ve already left the cleaned frames on for too long and they’ve already started to refill them 😳 what then? Also, can I store frames all winter in a freezer, either with honey in (if they started to refill) or not?

    Got in a bit of a muddle…

So I’ve done my first harvest but I’m in a bit of a muddle as to what to do next. I had 2 supers full (except for a couple of frames which were only capped one side) and one nearly full which I’m not taking. I extracted the 2 full ones and then put them back on the hive so it went: Two wet...

Is supermarket honey not real honey then?

Thank you! My bottle of squeezey honey in the cupboard says it’s blended from EU countries (I think).

Is supermarket honey not real honey then?

I keep seeing mentions of how supermarket honey isn’t proper honey. How come they’re still allowed to call it honey? What’s it made of then? Is it “funny honey”?

Have I got the wrong réfractomètre?

Is there a way of converting brix to water content?

Have I got the wrong réfractomètre?

On the left it says brix% just in words then there’s the main scale in the middle and on the right it says 20 degrees c.

Have I got the wrong réfractomètre?

No idea why that autocorrected to French but hey ho. So I got a réfractomètre for my birthday but it says it’s a brix one. Is it still ok? I tested a bit of supermarket honey with it and it sat at bang on 20 whatevers. What is a brix and do I need a different réfractomètre? I ask because -...

    Thanks everyone.

    May be slightly obsessed *twitch*

So my first lot of bees are going great guns. They’re practically multiplying as I watch. The modest trickle in and out at the beginning is now a slightly less polite jumble of barging, pollen laden bodies… Question: (I may have asked this before. My memory is shocking) - should I make their...

    Aaargh! I’m egg blind!

Honestly I was so close up I could hear their little bodies brushing up against each other. I got briefly worried when I noticed them appearing to have some sort of fit here and there but I think they were dancing at each other.

    Aaargh! I’m egg blind!

No - not yet. The suns really bright here though - wouldn’t that be enough? I thought I saw some at one point but I’m pretty sure it was nectar shining because they all looked exactly the same.

    Aaargh! I’m egg blind!

I see the Queen bumbling around. I see BIASEBE (brood in all stages except bloody eggs). From tiny little pearly wigglies to big fat grubs to capped brood. Still cannot see eggs. I’m starting to think I’ve got some sort of disability. Bright side - my bees are soooo calm despite my massive...
