Selling, we are doing it wrong.

Hang about, he's not English either, is he? I think we should go back to Northumbria being in charge, failing that, let us join Scotland again, please!

Selling, we are doing it wrong.

Sorry, I never watch television, mean to watch it more often - does his beekeeping pretence get a mention? Tempted to watch, but don't want it to be like a trip onto the Daily Mail website where I occasionally stumble across a story on and just get impotently angry and frustrated by their lies...

    Syrup “honey”

I recall the same article about doctored honey. I think Willie was just saying if you're a beefarmer, it's impossible to ever be sure there's no syrup or fondant at all in your honey - he's got 2000 or something hives and lots of apiaries spread over Northumberland and the Lammermuirs at...

    Syrup “honey”

When my cousin started keeping bees he thought it was impossible to overfeeding them; the cut-comb he kindly gave me tasted only like syrup, despite being capped, it was honestly horrid and flavourlessly sweet. As for small amounts, I daresay it's impossible to ever be 100% sure capped stores...

    Cheaper fondant

I've still a bad back, but the spade is definitely the way forward - just not feeling quite as smug at having bought over a tonne of fondant for 13 something each 18mnths ago now 😀 Who'd be a beekeeper, if it's not weather fluctuations it's global commodity prices being impossible to predict...

    Abelo 12 frame metal roof

I hadn't but i will, thanks! Only 30 something 12 framers in fairness, just like them best 👌

Amm / Native Black Bee Discussion

Have you experience of or might you be tempted by something like this queen rearing nuc from Thorne, or even the Abelo equivalent? Compatibility of frames is such a faff on - I bought some dirt cheap made up Smith frames (I run NAtionals) and even though they're workable, it really brought home...

Amm / Native Black Bee Discussion

This is invaluable, thanks for taking the time to explain it all. I'm still v much at the splitting two frames into a nuc stage, but you encourage me greatly!

    Cheap 25 kg Sugar

Jeez, they do 15kg of chocolate chips too! Could be v tempted to accidentally add those to a palletful of sugar - too tempting!

Amm / Native Black Bee Discussion

I don't have any skin in the amm/buckfast debate, but don't you find the blacker bees (I've not had any analysed but gave bought from amm suppliers) prone to chalkbrood? I don't mind if my bees are blue, just after health and good temperament with honey production a long way down mh itinerary...

    Abelo 12 frame metal roof

Probably too feckless to cut and fold it but if it's the only option I'd best learn over the winter, thanks!

    Abelo 12 frame metal roof

Hi, looking to bombproof my Abelo 12-framers as the wear and tear and ratchets straps I favour take their toll. Have already added metal roofs to my Payne's nucs to prolong their lifespan and enable me to put a smoker on top; has anyone come across metal roofs (just the actual metal) that fit...

    Recycling brood wax?

I found the Thorne's easisteam largely ineffective on brood comb, perhaps an indictment of just how dark and propolis I'd let them become but it barely melted 3 or 4 frames in the brood box I used, and even those were more collapsed than melted as such. Found it v frustrating and would take a...

Not disagreeing here, but could you tell us more please? Thanks

    Recycling brood wax?

I know most advise just chucking old brood comb away, or at best, bunging it in a solar melter or slow-cooker. A lot of mine has wires in and life's too short to go through them individually removing wires to just compost them so i just cut the comv out, ckean the frames and rewax with starter...

    Oxalic acid strips

I bought their last lot of Payne's nuc brood extensions - grand quality, but it takes a decent while to get here.

Old Castle Farm Hives 6 Frame Dual Poly Nuc

Yup, I emailed them asking if they could do discount if I bought 50 or so brood extensions and no joy. Be interested to hear if this polypropylene alternative is actually a lot different to the ordinary B.S./Maisies,Payne's soft poly apart from not requiting painting. Maisies sale is on at...

Instant vap, used for first time

Seems to be the way I'm headed, just a bugger making ekes for hives and assorted nucs - am using Mac Card's propolis mesh to keep the bees from flying up whilst I vape from above but would probably be simpler if I'd just sealed off nuc OMF floors as theyre the faffy ones

Instant vap, used for first time

For the reason Dani suggests, if it were a varrox or similar I'd probably be tempted to do it from underneath. With it being an 'active' sublimation rather than 'passive' (think BMH used those terms to differentiate), I'm not keen on firing loads of OA out for it to s8nk straight through the OMF...

    Affordable prewired assembled frames?

Any chance of picking some up on your way down the A74/M6 in spring to save shipping? Cheers
