Must be poor feeding or something🤔 Last year I did first splits in mid April. I suggest pollen paties in mid Feb. That helps a lot😉

100% agree 👍 Did inspections two days ago and had to add supers to half of my hives as some frames were filled with fresh nectar. 14x12 are usually bursting in early spring as they overwinter a lot better with a lot more bees than Standard national.

The rule of thumb is ratio 5:1 by weight. For 1 ounce of propolis use 5 ounces of 95-96% alcohol. I don't know about vodka proportions as I never used vodka so cannot comment on that, but I would assume since its only 40% I would probably use 1:1 or 2:1 the most. Hope it helps😉

14x12 from day one :cool: my first two hives were standard national but quickly realised they were to small and double brood is just to much hassle:sneaky:
