    busy swarm season

    I wasn't laughing, I can assure you  bee-smillie :D (y)

Swarms not as plentiful this year

Well, my main colony (after i'd split 3 weeks ago) swarmed on Saturday, decided they didn't fancy it, went home and then swarmed again on Sunday (they went back into the hive within 20 minutes on Saturday). Fortunately they only went about 10 metres across the garden and settled low in a plum...

    usual spring honey harvest challenge

This is my first spring and also have some capped stores in the super so, whilst I can't answer your question, I'm also interested in any 'constructive' answers you get to your question.

What's flowering as forage in your area

We have a fair bit of Blackthorn in flower around here too. We have 3 plum trees in the garden but not much interest from the bees just yet - mind you they are finding something outside the garden as they've been really busy over the last few weeks back and forth from the hive with both pollen...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Where in Devon have you moved? I''m in East Devon. It's a beautiful place to live!

Thank you very much, i'm working this morning and then a slap up steak for dinner this evening (all that for being just 54 years young!).

I got my labels printed via VistaPrint, really simple process and delivered to me within a few days. I juts designed the label, saved it as a jpeg and uploaded it to the template on their website

    Pre-Drawn Comb

Thanks but my extractor is only suitable for super frames unfortunately. I'll ask my BKA if their extractors will do brood frames and maybe consider borrowing one of those and get some comb that way. I think i'll be OK for this year and not need to do any comb changes as my colony are so 'young'.

    Pre-Drawn Comb

I've seen a couple of ads for synthetic (but made from natural compounds - not beeswax) and sterilised beeswax. I think i'll just steer clear anyway, but was just wondering if anyone had any experience of this. Thanks all

    Pre-Drawn Comb

I've seen a few 'adverts' for pre-drawn comb on some social media sites recently. As a very new beekeeper I don't have any drawn comb as I only got my colony last July/August so does anyone have any experience of the pre-drawn sheets? My initial thoughts are, how do they do it and if it is...

Simon the beekeeper closing down sale

it's in the classifieds, not 100% sure on the selling rules here (i'm on another forum where all sales need to be done through the classifieds section). But, yes, it will save the STBK crew from the added admin of sorting my refund etc.

Sold STBK Defender Suit, Grey, Large (Brand new)

I ordered this suit from STBK a few weeks ago but when it arrived I found I needed the next size up (replacement XL now on the way to me), so I now have a brand new, still in wrapping, with spare fencing style veil and carry bag grey Defender suit. size LARGE I could send it back for a refund...

Simon the beekeeper closing down sale

Had an email this afternoon to say that my order is now shipped. I now have a brand new STBK Defender suit, in grey, size large that I will either return (it wasn't as big as I thought it would be), or sell on the forum for what I paid, which is probably better for STBK as at least they won't...

Simon the beekeeper closing down sale

I don't think anyone is being impatient or complaining to be honest - someone posted that they hadn't heard anything form their order of a week or so ago, and a few of us replied in the same vein. That's not impatience by any means, nor is it badgering anyone or complaining (as far as I can...

Simon the beekeeper closing down sale

I ordered a suit on 16th, paid etc and all marked as in stock. No change to my order details on the website and no email. I'm trying to hold off calling them as I know they'll be really busy.

    Site for a hive?

Well, fortunately I live in a rural area and my closest neighbour is over 150m away, so i'm fairly confident the bees won't bother them too much and I won't be 'adversely affecting' them (we also have high Devon hedges and banks between properties). I get what you're saying and i'll just have...

Aims and objectives for 23 season

I think i'll do the same extraction method to be honest, much easier to to a bit at a time, as we say in the military 'eat a bit, sh*t a bit' (apologies if that offends anyone)

Aims and objectives for 23 season

Thanks, I'm aiming to enjoy my bees, not make it too huge and enjoy whatever honey they produce (I aim to leave a super of honey on the hive at the end of each season, for the bees)
