This is going to be bad news for the European hornet - or anything that people don't recognise - if the media develop this into their usual doomsday nonsense. If only they could be objective and educate people rather than scaremonger for sales.

They will, but like most animals, as well as humans, a native bee population will be accustomed to the normal climatic conditions in which they live. The unusually high temperatures current in some European countries must affect the behaviour of the bees and I wonder how beekeepers there respond...

An interesting situation. All is well in our small apiary and we have had a bait hive waiting for any passing swarm looking for a new location. Today we visited for the first time for a week and found that we do have new tenants, not in the bait hive but in an old Nuc that had some used frames...
