    Drone laying queen

Definitely not multiple eggs in one cell. And they seem to be grouped up. But there is very few of them.

    Drone laying queen

To be honest there aren't many eggs but the ones that are there are getting laid in the centre of the cells. Plus I found a single supersedure cell. That's why I assumed it was a drone laying queen. I'm going to have a look tomorrow again then decide what to do.

    Drone laying queen

This is my second full season beekeeping. Went to do a first inspection in my three hives yesterday. All was well in two hives. In the third hive noticed a single supersedure cell. It had hatched. The queen couldn't have survived the winter. She was a queen from a swarm I caught last year so no...

    Feeding

Sorry to hijack the thread i had a question. I have three colonies, have started feeding syrup. Two colonies are taking it down fast. The third one isn't touching it. I have dribbled it down the feed hole. But they still don't fancy it. Should I be concerned?

Should I give up on this hive?

Had the exact same problem as you earlier in the year. I wasted time and resources on it. Wish I had just shook them out earlier.

Any explanation for QCs & no brood?!

Could somebody explain more in depth about this method please? After you have moved the hive and carried out an artificial swarm what would there be left to do after 7 days? The bees in the nuc would make emergency queen cells and raise a new queen wouldn't they? Thanks in advance.

    Move bees 8ft

I caught a swarm last weekend. I took it to my apiary and put them in place. I have now decided I would rather move them 8ft away to another site. How can I do this without moving them 3 miles away first? Just move 3ft a day?

    Tips for finding a queen

Yesterday I went to do my weekly inspections and discovered a sealed queen cell. Now I was convinced with the amount of bees in the box that they hadn't swarmed yet. So I hunted and I hunted for the queen. Back and forth through the hive multiple times before I eventually found her and got her...

    Queenless hive

Went down to my hives to have a quick check of fondant levels yesterday. While I was there I became suspicious. One hive I saw loads of pollen going in and lots of activity. Hive two there was no pollen going in at all and a lot less activity. Decided to investigate. No brood whatsoever. Didn't...

    Night time temps

Thanks for the detailed reply. Cleared things up in my mind for me. I don't really want to get involved with adding boxes underneath if I can avoid it. Will wait and see what the daytime temps are in a couple weeks before I go for a full inspection. Currently I'm just quickly checking fondant...

    Night time temps

Hi there, I'm a new beekepper heading into my second season of beekeeping. I have a question about what are acceptable night time temps before inspecting? I don't want to damage a winter cluster. I live in the north east of Scotland. This morning when I came out my house it was 1 degree. Its...
