What did you do in the Apiary today?

Pottering around on the allotment this afternoon not planning to suit up but then heard a large background buzzing. Looked up and the air was full of bees, which took me aback as I demaree’d my main hive last week and the other was the one in which I accidentally killed the queen a fortnight...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Bad day. Inspected all 4 colonies which were doing fine. On the second I caught and re-marked the queen but then made a schoolboy error in not drawing down the sponge in the one-handed catcher before opening the excluder. Rolled the queen and she didn't make it. First accidental regicide for...

What did you do in the Apiary today?

Didn't mess about doing an inspection as didn't want to chill the brood box. I've had hive wraps on over winter (they're on a fairly exposed rural site): I...

    Greetings

Hi Enrico. Thank you - yes I am keen to avoid doubling up as time is limited during the summer with work. My biggest colony was the one I learnt with at my local BBKA. I'm looking to move it up from a national to a 14x12 and wondering about doing this via a demaree this spring, then...

    Greetings

Hello - I'm Greg, a new member this afternoon. In my first year, having done BBKA theory and practical courses last spring. I have 4 hives and am hoping to get them all through what's left of winter and into spring. Busy with spare box cleaning and prep currently. I'm looking forward to...
