Thanks for all your replies. I filled both away from the hives and carried them to the hive. I’ll try the sandpaper approach.

    Feeder full of dead bees

I have 2 hives and have a syrup feeder on both. On one there’s a dam of dead bees preventing the syrup being taken. The other hive has an identical feeder and the syrup is being used. Grateful for any advice as to what I’m doing wrong.

    Comb storage

Having seen the freezer recommendation, I have a small freezer that takes 12 frames at a time. How long do I need to freeze them before putting the next 12 in? Thereafter, they’re stored in a sealed box.

    Hi from Cleator Moor, Cumbria

Hi Andy As a newbie myself, I can support fully Enrico’s statement about the support and advice available on here. Not only that but the entertainment value of the ‘4 beekeepers, 5 different opinions’ is great. My in-laws parents live in Cleator

    Fondant for winter

Probably a bit miffed as he thought I had a local mentor but a miscommunication as no mentor. Struggled through the summer...

    Too late for Varroa treatment?

Thanks for all your comments Long story cut short; my mentor has been unable to support this year. So it’s been books and YouTube. It’s my first hive and was a nuc in the spring with a super put on early summer. Lots of laying and storing and they look to have enough stores (?). Did varroa...
