What did you do in the 'workshop' today

And there but for the grace of god go I (and probably quite a few others!) A salutary reminder to us all to take care and never let your guard down (pardon the pun!) when using power tools. I wish you a speedy recovery, and hope you're back to full operation speedily.......I had a bad kickback...

    Using reclaimed wood

Having re-read my post, I think I should qualify 'perfectly safe' as being no worse than the smoke from cardboard, egg cartons (often printed or dyed), grass, leaves or any other 'favourite' smoker fuel, which probably contains all manner of combustion nasties also:(

    Using reclaimed wood

No glue needed, they're made in the same way as sawdust briquettes and pellets, completely different process to making chipboard panels. Very high pressure releases the natural Lignin in the wood which "glues' the saw dust together. Perfectly safe:)

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

Hi James, 40mm PIR is not an unusual thickness, surely your local Travis Perkins or the like can supply you……glueing sheets together sounds a right faff😝

    Jig Plans

This is my jig, pretty much a variation on the others shown, I make all my boxes, ekes and boards on it….I air staple the boards and ekes and it holds them securely during this process. I’ve included a centre hold down to ensure the corners don’t lift during assembly. There’s a nuc jig set up on...

    Gasvap alternative

I bought the complete kit with the blow lamp included, just to ensure compatibility. Fuelled it using gas lighter re-fill aerosol.

    Gasvap alternative

I gave up with my gasvap for the same reasons, I was constantly fiddling with it, trying to get the temperature right, but with no certainty…..gave up when it overheated in a moment of less vigilance and de-soldered itself🤦🏻‍♂️😂. I bought an Instavap last year and in my estimation it is a game...

    extractor recommendation /advice

Motor for that extractor is £210, extractor £440 making the total £650.....electric version £690, I don't get the pricing but hey ho, I get the manual kit free! Model you've chosen looks good too.

    extractor recommendation /advice

I run 14 x 12's and use the Demaree method of swarm control, so saw a need to be able to extract those frames, and last year bought this : https://www.abelo.co.uk/shop/extractors/manual-6-frame-tangential/ It does exactly what I want and has the additional bonus of being upgradeable to electric...

    One handed queen catcher

I've carelessly garrotted a queen using a one handed queen catcher:banghead:.........I do however, with this experience in mind still use one VERY carefully as I find it brilliant for clipping queens. I really don't trust myself handling them yet, with my clumsy fingers and find with care you...

    INSTANT VAP

Of course I was using it for bleaching!.....will have to continue with the gurgling gungey Apibioxal for Varroa treatment obvs;)

    INSTANT VAP

I bought an Instantvap in January this year to replace my Gasvap, and I have to report that I also find it absolutely fantastic to use, really well designed and made, quick and easy to use and feels like it's going to last a while.......time will obviously tell on this point! I did have a...

What did you do in the 'workshop' today

This is the stuff I use too, it's very good and inexpensive compared to most. Order over £25 and the carriage is free....they also have over 500 shops.......and no I don't work for them!🤣

Using standard Supers with Abelo 12 frame poly (top bee space)

The rebate in the two side rails needs to be deeper too, allowing the frames to sit lower

Will a smallish colony still expand at this time of year?

Or maybe a tapered batten fixed around the floor or hive stand, thin end pointing skyward so as to 'wedge' the cosy on when lowered down? Of course this would be totally dependant on the length of your cosy, as you really wouldn't want to fit anything to your boxes...just a thought:)

Will a smallish colony still expand at this time of year?

Hmm I don't think I'd get away with that! Had a look at Vino Farm last night.....That thing is mammoth.....The outer cedar looks almost bulletproof!! I get his thinking but how on earth would you do any 'box juggling' like, for example a Demaree? I agree with you, a long type of hive would be...
